A crowd had been with Jesus when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead. So they continued to tell everyone about what had happened.

John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.“ I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish— the very works that I am doing— testify that the Father has sent me.And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,

beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us. For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.”

We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”

Then John gave this testimony:“ I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.

They tell of the power of your awesome works— and I will proclaim your great deeds.They celebrate your abundant goodness and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The man who saw it has given testimony, and his testimony is true. He knows that he tells the truth, and he testifies so that you also may believe.

The Pharisees challenged him,“ Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”Jesus answered,“ Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.

“ When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father— the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father— he will testify about me.And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning.

Meanwhile a large crowd of Jews found out that Jesus was there and came, not only because of him but also to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead.

I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.”

who testifies to everything he saw— that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

We accept human testimony, but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony. Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.

I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.”

When the Jews who had been with Mary in the house, comforting her, noticed how quickly she got up and went out, they followed her, supposing she was going to the tomb to mourn there.

Now this was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.
