為這些事做見證、記錄這些事的就是那個門徒，我們都知道他的見證是真實的。

約翰是一盞點亮的明燈，你們情願暫時享受他的光。但是我有比約翰更大的見證，因為父交待我去完成的工作，就是我現在所做的工作，證明我是父差來的。差我來的父曾親自為我做過見證。你們從未聽過祂的聲音，從未見過祂，心裡也沒有祂的道，因為你們不信祂所差來的那位。你們研讀聖經，以為從聖經中可以得到永生。其實為我做見證的正是這聖經，

我們就是這些事的見證人，上帝賜給順服祂之人的聖靈也同樣做見證。」

約翰又做見證說：「我看見聖靈好像鴿子一樣從天降下，住在祂身上。

人們要述說你令人敬畏的大能作為，我也要傳揚你的偉大事蹟。他們要訴說你的厚恩，歌頌你的公義。

看見這事的人為此做見證，他的見證是真實的，他知道自己所說的是事實，好讓你們可以相信。

法利賽人對祂說：「你自己為自己做見證，你的見證不真實。」耶穌說：「即便我自己為自己做見證，我的見證仍是真實的，因為我知道自己從哪裡來、要到哪裡去，你們卻不知道我從哪裡來、要到哪裡去。

「我要從父那裡為你們差護慰者來，祂就是從父而來的真理之靈。祂來了要為我做見證。你們也要為我做見證，因為你們從開始就與我在一起。

有許多猶太人知道耶穌在那裡，就來看祂，不單是為了看耶穌，也想看看從死裡復活的拉撒路。

我知道你常常垂聽我的禱告。我這樣說是為了周圍站著的眾人，好叫他們相信是你差了我來。」

約翰便為自己所看見的一切——上帝的道和耶穌基督做見證。

我們既然接受人的見證，就更該接受上帝的見證，因為上帝為祂的兒子作了見證。信上帝兒子的人心裡有這見證，不信上帝的人等於把上帝當作撒謊的，因為他不信上帝為祂兒子做的見證。這見證就是：上帝已經把永恆的生命賜給我們，這生命在祂兒子裡面。人有上帝的兒子，就有這生命；沒有上帝的兒子，就沒有這生命。

許多來看瑪麗亞的猶太人看見耶穌所行的事，就信了祂，但也有些人去見法利賽人，把耶穌所行的事告訴他們。

我看見了，便做見證，祂就是上帝的兒子。」

那些在家裡安慰瑪麗亞的猶太人，見她匆匆忙忙地跑了出去，以為她要去墳墓那裡哭，就跟著出去。

以下是約翰的見證。猶太人從耶路撒冷派祭司和利未人來找約翰，查問他是誰。
