约翰是一盏点亮的明灯，你们情愿暂时享受他的光。但是我有比约翰更大的见证，因为父交待我去完成的工作，就是我现在所做的工作，证明我是父差来的。差我来的父曾亲自为我做过见证。你们从未听过祂的声音，从未见过祂，心里也没有祂的道，因为你们不信祂所差来的那位。你们研读圣经，以为从圣经中可以得到永生。其实为我做见证的正是这圣经，

我们就是这些事的见证人，上帝赐给顺服祂之人的圣灵也同样做见证。”

约翰又做见证说：“我看见圣灵好像鸽子一样从天降下，住在祂身上。

人们要述说你令人敬畏的大能作为，我也要传扬你的伟大事迹。他们要诉说你的厚恩，歌颂你的公义。

看见这事的人为此做见证，他的见证是真实的，他知道自己所说的是事实，好让你们可以相信。

法利赛人对祂说：“你自己为自己做见证，你的见证不真实。”耶稣说：“即便我自己为自己做见证，我的见证仍是真实的，因为我知道自己从哪里来、要到哪里去，你们却不知道我从哪里来、要到哪里去。

“我要从父那里为你们差护慰者来，祂就是从父而来的真理之灵。祂来了要为我做见证。你们也要为我做见证，因为你们从开始就与我在一起。

有许多犹太人知道耶稣在那里，就来看祂，不单是为了看耶稣，也想看看从死里复活的拉撒路。

我知道你常常垂听我的祷告。我这样说是为了周围站着的众人，好叫他们相信是你差了我来。”

约翰便为自己所看见的一切——上帝的道和耶稣基督做见证。

我们既然接受人的见证，就更该接受上帝的见证，因为上帝为祂的儿子做了见证。信上帝儿子的人心里有这见证，不信上帝的人等于把上帝当作撒谎的，因为他不信上帝为祂儿子做的见证。这见证就是：上帝已经把永恒的生命赐给我们，这生命在祂儿子里面。人有上帝的儿子，就有这生命；没有上帝的儿子，就没有这生命。

许多来看玛丽亚的犹太人看见耶稣所行的事，就信了祂，但也有些人去见法利赛人，把耶稣所行的事告诉他们。

我看见了，便做见证，祂就是上帝的儿子。”

那些在家里安慰玛丽亚的犹太人，见她匆匆忙忙地跑了出去，以为她要去坟墓那里哭，就跟着出去。

以下是约翰的见证。犹太人从耶路撒冷派祭司和利未人来找约翰，查问他是谁。
