And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.Then the Lord said to Cain,“ Where is Abel your brother?” He said,“ I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”And He said,“ What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.

But he said to him,‘ If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.’”

Then Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceedingly angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.

So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh and said to him,“ Thus says the Lord God of the Hebrews:‘ How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, that they may serve Me.

“ Would you indeed annul My judgment? Would you condemn Me that you may be justified?Have you an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like His?

When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.So they said to him,“ In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet:‘ But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel.’”Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.And he sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also.”

Then he was driven from the sons of men, his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. They fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and appoints over it whomever He chooses.“ But you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, although you knew all this.And you have lifted yourself up against the Lord of heaven. They have brought the vessels of His house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, bronze and iron, wood and stone, which do not see or hear or know; and the God who holds your breath in His hand and owns all your ways, you have not glorified.

Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said,“ What shall we do? For this Man works many signs.If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation.”And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all,nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish.”Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death.

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might seize Him.

For he stretches out his hand against God, And acts defiantly against the Almighty,Running stubbornly against Him With his strong, embossed shield.
