Is my father still living?” But they could not answer him because they were terrified in his presence.Then Joseph said to his brothers,“ Please, come near me,” and they came near.“ I am Joseph, your brother,” he said,“ the one you sold into Egypt.And now don’t be worried or angry with yourselves for selling me here, because God sent me ahead of you to preserve life.

    Then Joseph commanded his steward:“ Fill the men’s bags with as much food as they can carry, and put each one’s money at the top of his bag.Put my cup, the silver one, at the top of the youngest one’s bag, along with his grain money.” So he did as Joseph told him.At morning light, the men were sent off with their donkeys.They had not gone very far from the city when Joseph said to his steward,“ Get up. Pursue the men, and when you overtake them, say to them,‘ Why have you repaid evil for good?Isn’t this the cup that my master drinks from and uses for divination? What you have done is wrong!’”

He went into an inner room to weep.Then he washed his face and came out. Regaining his composure, he said,“ Serve the meal.”

    Just then a Canaanite woman from that region came and kept crying out,“ Have mercy on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is cruelly tormented by a demon.”Yet He did not say a word to her. So His disciples approached Him and urged Him,“ Send her away because she cries out after us.”He replied,“ I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”But she came, knelt before Him, and said,“ Lord, help me!”He answered,“ It isn’t right to take the children’s bread and throw it to their dogs.”“ Yes, Lord,” she said,“ yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters’ table!”Then Jesus replied to her,“ Woman, your faith is great. Let it be done for you as you want.” And from that moment her daughter was cured.
