Then the chief priests met with the elders of the people. They met in the palace of Caiaphas, the high priest.

and brought him first to Annas. He was the father- in- law of Caiaphas, the high priest at that time.Caiaphas had advised the Jewish leaders that it would be good if one man died for the people.

He did not say this on his own because he was high priest at that time. He prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation.

Do you see a person who is wise in their own eyes? There is more hope for a foolish person than for them.

Annas and Caiaphas were high priests. At that time God’s word came to John, son of Zechariah, in the desert.

Don’t fool yourselves. Suppose some of you think you are wise by the standards of the world. Then you should become“ fools” so that you can become wise.The wisdom of this world is foolish in God’s eyes. It is written,“ God catches wise people in their own evil plans.”( Job 5:13)

Annas, the high priest, was there. So were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and other people in the high priest’s family.

The words we speak to those who have grown in the faith are wise. Our words are different from the wisdom of this world. Our words are different from those of the rulers of this world. These rulers are becoming less and less powerful.

“ Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?No! But this mob knows nothing about the law. There is a curse on them.”

How terrible it will be for those who say that what is evil is good! How terrible for those who say that what is good is evil! How terrible for those who say that darkness is light and light is darkness! How terrible for those who say that what is bitter is sweet and what is sweet is bitter!How terrible it will be for those who think they are wise! How terrible for those who think they are really clever!How terrible it will be for those who are heroes at drinking wine! How terrible for those who are heroes at mixing drinks!How terrible for those who take money to set guilty people free! How terrible for those who don’t treat good people fairly!

Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where are the great thinkers of our time? Hasn’t God made the wisdom of the world foolish?
