Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up,“ You know nothing at all!

One of the Jewish leaders spoke up. His name was Caiaphas. He was high priest at that time. He said,“ You don’t know anything at all!

And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit?[ there is] more hope of a fool than of him.

Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.

Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him?But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!Woe unto[ them that are] wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!Woe unto[ them that are] mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink:Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

Where[ is] the wise? where[ is] the scribe? where[ is] the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
