“ Lord,” Martha said to Jesus,“ if you had been here, my brother would not have died.

When Mary arrived and saw Jesus, she fell at his feet and said,“ Lord, if only you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

But some said,“ This man healed a blind man. Couldn’t he have kept Lazarus from dying?”

So Jesus went with them. But just before they arrived at the house, the officer sent some friends to say,“ Lord, don’t trouble yourself by coming to my home, for I am not worthy of such an honor.I am not even worthy to come and meet you. Just say the word from where you are, and my servant will be healed.I know this because I am under the authority of my superior officers, and I have authority over my soldiers. I only need to say,‘ Go,’ and they go, or‘ Come,’ and they come. And if I say to my slaves,‘ Do this,’ they do it.”When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. Turning to the crowd that was following him, he said,“ I tell you, I haven’t seen faith like this in all Israel!”And when the officer’s friends returned to his house, they found the slave completely healed.

Then she said to Elijah,“ O man of God, what have you done to me? Have you come here to point out my sins and kill my son?”

When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son, who was about to die.Jesus asked,“ Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?”The official pleaded,“ Lord, please come now before my little boy dies.”

As Jesus was saying this, the leader of a synagogue came and knelt before him.“ My daughter has just died,” he said,“ but you can bring her back to life again if you just come and lay your hand on her.”

While he was still speaking to her, a messenger arrived from the home of Jairus, the leader of the synagogue. He told him,“ Your daughter is dead. There’s no use troubling the Teacher now.”But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus,“ Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.”When they arrived at the house, Jesus wouldn’t let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, James, and the little girl’s father and mother.The house was filled with people weeping and wailing, but he said,“ Stop the weeping! She isn’t dead; she’s only asleep.”But the crowd laughed at him because they all knew she had died.Then Jesus took her by the hand and said in a loud voice,“ My child, get up!”And at that moment her life returned, and she immediately stood up! Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat.

They even spoke against God himself, saying,“ God can’t give us food in the wilderness.

Again and again they tested God’s patience and provoked the Holy One of Israel.

When the Lord saw her, his heart overflowed with compassion.“ Don’t cry!” he said.Then he walked over to the coffin and touched it, and the bearers stopped.“ Young man,” he said,“ I tell you, get up.”Then the dead boy sat up and began to talk! And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
