Now when Mary came to the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said to him,“ Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

But some of them said,“ This is the man who caused the blind man to see! Couldn’t he have done something to keep Lazarus from dying?”

So Jesus went with them. When he was not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to say to him,“ Lord, do not trouble yourself, for I am not worthy to have you come under my roof.That is why I did not presume to come to you. Instead, say the word, and my servant must be healed.For I too am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me. I say to this one,‘ Go,’ and he goes, and to another,‘ Come,’ and he comes, and to my slave,‘ Do this,’ and he does it.”When Jesus heard this, he was amazed at him. He turned and said to the crowd that followed him,“ I tell you, not even in Israel have I found such faith!”So when those who had been sent returned to the house, they found the slave well.

She asked Elijah,“ Why, prophet, have you come to me to confront me with my sin and kill my son?”

When he heard that Jesus had come back from Judea to Galilee, he went to him and begged him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.So Jesus said to him,“ Unless you people see signs and wonders you will never believe!”“ Sir,” the official said to him,“ come down before my child dies.”

As he was saying these things, a ruler came, bowed low before him, and said,“ My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and she will live.”

While he was still speaking, someone from the synagogue ruler’s house came and said,“ Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.”But when Jesus heard this, he told him,“ Do not be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.”Now when he came to the house, Jesus did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother.Now they were all wailing and mourning for her, but he said,“ Stop your weeping; she is not dead but asleep.”And they began making fun of him, because they knew that she was dead.But Jesus gently took her by the hand and said,“ Child, get up.”Her spirit returned, and she got up immediately. Then he told them to give her something to eat.

They insulted God, saying,“ Is God really able to give us food in the wilderness?

They again challenged God, and offended the Holy One of Israel.

When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her,“ Do not weep.”Then he came up and touched the bier, and those who carried it stood still. He said,“ Young man, I say to you, get up!”So the dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him back to his mother.
