So the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead, continued to testify about Him.

Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home.And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word.But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said,“ Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.”But the Lord answered and said to her,“ Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things;but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

And a poor man named Lazarus was laid at his gate, covered with sores,and longing to be fed from the scraps which fell from the rich man’s table; not only that, the dogs also were coming and licking his sores.Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s arms; and the rich man also died and was buried.And in Hades he raised his eyes, being in torment, and* saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his arms.And he cried out and said,‘ Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus, so that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool off my tongue, for I am in agony in this flame.’But Abraham said,‘ Child, remember that during your life you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus bad things; but now he is being comforted here, and you are in agony.

Now it came about after these things that Joseph was told,“ Behold, your father is sick.” So he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim with him.

But it happened at that time that she became sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upstairs room.

This He said, and after this He* said to them,“ Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going so that I may awaken him from sleep.”

And as they* approached Jerusalem, at Bethphage and Bethany, near the Mount of Olives, He* sent two of His disciples,

The large crowd of the Jews then learned that He was there; and they came, not on account of Jesus only, but so that they might also see Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead.

So the sisters sent word to Him, saying,“ Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick.”

In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him,“ This is what the Lord says:‘ Set your house in order, for you are going to die and not live.’ ”Then he turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord, saying,“ Please, Lord, just remember how I have walked before You wholeheartedly and in truth, and have done what is good in Your sight!” And Hezekiah wept profusely.And even before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard, the word of the Lord came to him, saying,“ Return and say to Hezekiah the leader of My people,‘ This is what the Lord, the God of your father David says:“ I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I am going to heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord.And I will add fifteen years to your life, and I will save you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will protect this city for My own sake and for My servant David’s sake.” ’ ”Then Isaiah said,“ Take a cake of figs.” And they took it and placed it on the inflamed spot, and he recovered.Now Hezekiah said to Isaiah,“ What will be the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I will go up to the house of the Lord on the third day?”Isaiah said,“ This shall be the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will perform the word that He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten steps or go back ten steps?”So Hezekiah said,“ It is easy for the shadow to decline ten steps; no, but have the shadow turn backward ten steps.”Then Isaiah the prophet called out to the Lord, and He brought the shadow on the stairway back ten steps by which it had gone down on the stairway of Ahaz.At that time Berodach baladan, a son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, because he heard that Hezekiah had been sick.

Therefore, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany where Lazarus was, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.So they made Him a dinner there, and Martha was serving; and Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.
