Then many came to Him and said,“ John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true.”

and many people came to him. They said,“ Though John never performed a sign, all that John said about this man was true.”

Many people came to him. They said,“ John never performed a sign. But everything he said about this man was true.”

And many came to him. And they said,“ John did no sign, but everything that John said about this man was true.”

And many followed him.“ John didn’t perform miraculous signs,” they remarked to one another,“ but everything he said about this man has come true.”

And many came unto him; and they said, John indeed did no sign: but all things whatsoever John spake of this man were true.

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said,“ Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!This is He of whom I said,‘ After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’

And they came to John and said to him,“ Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified— behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!”John answered and said,“ A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.You yourselves bear me witness, that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent before Him.’He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.He must increase, but I must decrease.He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet.This is he of whom it is written:‘ Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, Who will prepare Your way before You.’For I say to you, among those born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist; but he who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.”And when all the people heard Him, even the tax collectors justified God, having been baptized with the baptism of John.But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the will of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people.Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them.Great multitudes followed Him— from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

When they found Him, they said to Him,“ Everyone is looking for You.”

In the meantime, when an innumerable multitude of people had gathered together, so that they trampled one another, He began to say to His disciples first of all,“ Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret,

This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”

and said to his servants,“ This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”
