Many of them said,“ He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”

The king rose up with the governor, and Bernice, and those who sat with them.When they had withdrawn, they spoke to one another, saying,“ This man does nothing worthy of death or of bonds.”Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man might have been set free if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

But the Pharisees said,“ By the prince of the demons, he casts out demons.”

But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you;but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters.”

They insulted him and said,“ You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”

He was taken away by oppression and judgment. As for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living and stricken for the disobedience of my people?

As he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice,“ Paul, you are crazy! Your great learning is driving you insane!”

The officers answered,“ No man ever spoke like this man!”The Pharisees therefore answered them,“ You aren’t also led astray, are you?Have any of the rulers believed in him, or of the Pharisees?But this multitude that doesn’t know the law is cursed.”Nicodemus( he who came to him by night, being one of them) said to them,“ Does our law judge a man, unless it first hears from him personally and knows what he does?”They answered him,“ Are you also from Galilee? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household!

but had certain questions against him about their own religion, and about one Jesus, who was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.Being perplexed how to inquire concerning these things, I asked whether he was willing to go to Jerusalem and there be judged concerning these matters.
