Many of them said,“ He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”

Many of them said,“ He is controlled by a demon. He has gone crazy! Why should we listen to him?”

Many of them said,“ He has a demon, and is insane; why listen to him?”

Some said,“ He’s demon possessed and out of his mind. Why listen to a man like that?”

When his family heard this they went out to restrain him, for they said,“ He is out of his mind.”

The crowd answered,“ You’re possessed by a demon! Who is trying to kill you?”

Then the Judeans responded,“ Now we know you’re possessed by a demon! Both Abraham and the prophets died, and yet you say,‘ If anyone obeys my teaching, he will never experience death.’

The one who belongs to God listens and responds to God’s words. You don’t listen and respond, because you don’t belong to God.”The Judeans replied,“ Aren’t we correct in saying that you are a Samaritan and are possessed by a demon?”

So the king got up, and with him the governor and Bernice and those sitting with them,and as they were leaving they said to one another,“ This man is not doing anything deserving death or imprisonment.”Agrippa said to Festus,“ This man could have been released if he had not appealed to Caesar.”

But the Pharisees said,“ By the ruler of demons he casts out demons.”

But just as Paul was about to speak, Gallio said to the Jews,“ If it were a matter of some crime or serious piece of villainy, I would have been justified in accepting the complaint of you Jews,but since it concerns points of disagreement about words and names and your own law, settle it yourselves. I will not be a judge of these things!”

They heaped insults on him, saying,“ You are his disciple! We are disciples of Moses!We know that God has spoken to Moses! We do not know where this man comes from!”

He was led away after an unjust trial– but who even cared? Indeed, he was cut off from the land of the living; because of the rebellion of his own people he was wounded.

As Paul was saying these things in his defense, Festus exclaimed loudly,“ You have lost your mind, Paul! Your great learning is driving you insane!”

The officers replied,“ No one ever spoke like this man!”Then the Pharisees answered,“ You haven’t been deceived too, have you?None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said,“ Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?”They replied,“ You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet comes from Galilee!”[[

It is enough for the disciple to become like his teacher, and the slave like his master. If they have called the head of the house‘ Beelzebul,’ how much more will they defame the members of his household!

Rather they had several points of disagreement with him about their own religion and about a man named Jesus who was dead, whom Paul claimed to be alive.Because I was at a loss how I could investigate these matters, I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem and be tried there on these charges.
