我本來不認識祂，但那位差我來用水給人施洗的告訴我，『你看見聖靈降下，住在誰身上，誰就是用聖靈給人施洗的。』

我先前不认识他，只是那差我来用水施洗的、对我说：‘你看见圣灵降下来，住在谁的身上，谁就是用圣灵施洗的。’

因為從前約翰用水給你們施洗，但再過幾天，你們要受聖靈的洗。」

我用水為你們施洗，叫你們悔改。但在我之後，有位比我更有能力的要來，我連替祂提鞋都不配。祂要用聖靈和火為你們施洗。

約翰對眾人說：「我是用水給你們施洗，但有一位能力比我更大的快來了，我就是給祂解鞋帶也不配。祂要用聖靈和火給你們施洗。

藉著重生之洗和聖靈的更新拯救了我們，這並非因為我們有義行，而是因為祂的憐憫。上帝藉著我們的救主耶穌基督把聖靈豐豐富富地澆灌在我們身上。

「我開口講話時，聖靈降在他們身上，跟當初降在我們身上的情形一模一樣。我就想起主的話，『約翰用水施洗，但你們要受聖靈的洗禮。』

不論是猶太人或希臘人，是奴隸或自由人，我們都領受了同一位聖靈的洗禮，歸入了同一個身體，同飲一位聖靈。

耶穌說：「我實實在在地告訴你，人如果不是從水和聖靈生的，就不能進上帝的國。

保羅問他們：「你們信的時候有沒有領受聖靈？」他們說：「沒有！我們從來沒有聽過聖靈的事。」保羅說：「那麼，你們受的是什麼洗禮呢？」他們說：「是約翰的洗禮。」保羅說：「約翰的洗禮是悔改的洗禮，約翰告訴百姓要信在他以後來的那位——耶穌。」他們聽後，立刻奉主耶穌的名受了洗。保羅把手按在他們身上時，聖靈便降在他們身上，他們就說方言，講上帝的信息。

上帝所差來的，說的是上帝的話，因為上帝將聖靈無限量地賜給祂。

他傳道說：「在我之後，有一位能力比我更大的要來，我連彎腰替祂解鞋帶也不配。我是用水給你們施洗，但祂要用聖靈給你們施洗。」

彼得還在說話的時候，聖靈就降臨在每一個聽道的人身上。跟彼得一起來的那些嚴守割禮的信徒，看見聖靈的恩賜也澆灌到外族人身上，都很驚奇。因為他們聽見這些人又說方言又讚美上帝。於是彼得說：「既然這些人已經和我們一樣領受了聖靈，誰能阻止他們接受洗禮呢？」

我以前並不認識祂，現在我用水給人施洗，是要把祂顯明給以色列人。」

後來，耶穌從加利利來到約旦河要約翰為祂施洗。約翰想要攔住祂，就說：「應該是你為我施洗才對，你反倒來找我？」耶穌回答說：「你就這樣做吧！我們理當這樣遵行上帝一切的要求。」於是約翰答應了。

大家都被聖靈充滿，得到聖靈所賜的才能，說起別的語言來。
