John told them,“ I baptize with water, but right here in the crowd is someone you do not recognize.

“ I baptize with water,” John replied,“ but among you stands one you do not know.

“ I baptize people with water,” John replied.“ But someone is standing among you whom you do not know.

John answered them,“ I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know,

“ I baptize with water,” John answered them.“ Someone stands among you, but you don’t know him.

John answered them, saying,“ I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.

John answered them, saying,“ I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.

John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,

“ I baptize with water,” John answered them.“ Someone stands among you, but you don’t know Him.

John answered them,“ I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.

John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”

I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!”

He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.He came to his own people, and even they rejected him.

John answered their questions by saying,“ I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

“ I baptize with water those who repent of their sins and turn to God. But someone is coming soon who is greater than I am— so much greater that I’m not worthy even to be his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

“ Where is your father?” they asked. Jesus answered,“ Since you don’t know who I am, you don’t know who my Father is. If you knew me, you would also know my Father.”

“ O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me.

Then I thought of the Lord’s words when he said,‘ John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’

This is because they have never known the Father or me.

And this is the way to have eternal life— to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.

“ Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.“ But who will be able to endure it when he comes? Who will be able to stand and face him when he appears? For he will be like a blazing fire that refines metal, or like a strong soap that bleaches clothes.
