For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

Jesus replied,“ I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world may be held accountable to God.For no one is declared righteous before him by the works of the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.But now apart from the law the righteousness of God( which is attested by the law and the prophets) has been disclosed–namely, the righteousness of God through the faithfulness of Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction,for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.But they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.God publicly displayed him at his death as the mercy seat accessible through faith. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because God in his forbearance had passed over the sins previously committed.This was also to demonstrate his righteousness in the present time, so that he would be just and the justifier of the one who lives because of Jesus’ faithfulness.

Indeed according to the law almost everything was purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Now the law came in so that the transgression may increase, but where sin increased, grace multiplied all the more,so that just as sin reigned in death, so also grace will reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

But if the ministry that produced death– carved in letters on stone tablets– came with glory, so that the Israelites could not keep their eyes fixed on the face of Moses because of the glory of his face( a glory which was made ineffective),how much more glorious will the ministry of the Spirit be?For if there was glory in the ministry that produced condemnation, how much more does the ministry that produces righteousness excel in glory!For indeed, what had been glorious now has no glory because of the tremendously greater glory of what replaced it.

Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory– the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

Hasn’t Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law! Why do you want to kill me?”

They set a day to meet with him, and they came to him where he was staying in even greater numbers. From morning until evening he explained things to them, testifying about the kingdom of God and trying to convince them about Jesus from both the law of Moses and the prophets.

For all who rely on doing the works of the law are under a curse, because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who does not keep on doing everything written in the book of the law.”Now it is clear no one is justified before God by the law, because the righteous one will live by faith.But the law is not based on faith, but the one who does the works of the law will live by them.Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us( because it is written,“ Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”)

Because you have obeyed me, all the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants.’”

Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken.But Christ is faithful as a son over God’s house. We are of his house, if in fact we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope we take pride in.

But showing its fault, God says to them,“ Look, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will complete a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.“ It will not be like the covenant that I made with their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not continue in my covenant and I had no regard for them, says the Lord.“ For this is the covenant that I will establish with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on their hearts. And I will be their God and they will be my people.“ And there will be no need at all for each one to teach his countryman or each one to teach his brother saying,‘ Know the Lord,’ since they will all know me, from the least to the greatest.“ For I will be merciful toward their evil deeds, and their sins I will remember no longer.”

For the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins.So when he came into the world, he said,“ Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me.“ Whole burnt offerings and sin- offerings you took no delight in.“ Then I said,‘ Here I am: I have come– it is written of me in the scroll of the book– to do your will, O God.’”When he says above,“ Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sin- offerings you did not desire nor did you take delight in them”( which are offered according to the law),then he says,“ Here I am: I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first to establish the second.By his will we have been made holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

“ Do not suppose that I will accuse you before the Father. The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have placed your hope.

and when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty- four elders threw themselves to the ground before the Lamb. Each of them had a harp and golden bowls full of incense( which are the prayers of the saints).They were singing a new song:“ You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals because you were killed, and at the cost of your own blood you have purchased for God persons from every tribe, language, people, and nation.You have appointed them as a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.”

What I am saying is this: The law that came four hundred thirty years later does not cancel a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to invalidate the promise.

Then Moses called all the people of Israel together and said to them:“ Listen, Israel, to the statutes and ordinances that I am about to deliver to you today; learn them and be careful to keep them!

“ Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, because he has come to help and has redeemed his people.For he has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David,as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from long ago,that we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us.He has done this to show mercy to our ancestors, and to remember his holy covenant–the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham. This oath grantsthat we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, may serve him without fear,in holiness and righteousness before him for as long as we live.And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High. For you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.Because of our God’s tender mercy the dawn will break upon us from on highto give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the circumcised on behalf of God’s truth to confirm the promises made to the fathers,and thus the Gentiles glorify God for his mercy. As it is written,“ Because of this I will confess you among the Gentiles, and I will sing praises to your name.”And again it says:“ Rejoice, O Gentiles, with his people.”And again,“ Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, and let all the peoples praise him.”And again Isaiah says,“ The root of Jesse will come, and the one who rises to rule over the Gentiles, in him will the Gentiles hope.”

This is the man who was in the congregation in the wilderness with the angel who spoke to him at Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors, and he received living oracles to give to you.

After these things I looked, and here was an enormous crowd that no one could count, made up of persons from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes, and with palm branches in their hands.They were shouting out in a loud voice,“ Salvation belongs to our God, to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”And all the angels stood there in a circle around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground before the throne and worshiped God,saying,“ Amen! Praise and glory, and wisdom and thanksgiving, and honor and power and strength be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”Then one of the elders asked me,“ These dressed in long white robes– who are they and where have they come from?”So I said to him,“ My lord, you know the answer.” Then he said to me,“ These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb!For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve him day and night in his temple, and the one seated on the throne will shelter them.They will never go hungry or be thirsty again, and the sun will not beat down on them, nor any burning heat,because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”

He has helped his servant Israel, remembering his mercy,as he promised to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.”

We know that God has spoken to Moses! We do not know where this man comes from!”

And I will put hostility between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; her offspring will attack your head, and you will attack her offspring’s heel.”

For every one of God’s promises are“ Yes” in him; therefore also through him the“ Amen” is spoken, to the glory we give to God.

He remains loyal and faithful to the family of Israel. All the ends of the earth see our God deliver us.

I will sing continually about the LORD’s faithful deeds; to future generations I will proclaim your faithfulness.For I say,“ Loyal love is permanently established; in the skies you set up your faithfulness.”

You will be loyal to Jacob and extend your loyal love to Abraham, which you promised on oath to our ancestors in ancient times.

And these all were commended for their faith, yet they did not receive what was promised.For God had provided something better for us, so that they would be made perfect together with us.

But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesus from the dead, never again to be in a state of decay, God has spoken in this way:‘ I will give you the holy and trustworthy promises made to David.’Therefore he also says in another psalm,‘ You will not permit your Holy One to experience decay.’For David, after he had served God’s purpose in his own generation, died, was buried with his ancestors, and experienced decay,but the one whom God raised up did not experience decay.Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this one forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,and by this one everyone who believes is justified from everything from which the law of Moses could not justify you.

Loyal love and faithfulness meet; deliverance and peace greet each other with a kiss.

Moses delivered to us a law, an inheritance for the assembly of Jacob.

God spoke all these words:“ I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.“ You shall have no other gods before me.“ You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below.You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations of those who reject me,and showing covenant faithfulness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.“ You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.“ Remember the Sabbath day to set it apart as holy.For six days you may labor and do all your work,but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; on it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your cattle, or the resident foreigner who is in your gates.For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.“ Honor your father and your mother, that you may live a long time in the land the LORD your God is giving to you.“ You shall not murder.“ You shall not commit adultery.“ You shall not steal.“ You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.“ You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

This is the law that Moses set before the Israelites.
