Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches,

耶和华如此说：“智慧人不要因他的智慧夸口，勇士不要因他的勇力夸口，财主不要因他的财物夸口。

This is what the Lord says:“ Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches,

The Lord says,“ Do not let wise people brag about how wise they are. Do not let strong people boast about how strong they are. Do not let rich people brag about how rich they are.

This is what the Lord says:“ Don’t let the wise boast in their wisdom, or the powerful boast in their power, or the rich boast in their riches.

“‘ This is what the LORD says: The wise person should not boast in his wisdom; the strong should not boast in his strength; the wealthy should not boast in his wealth.

This is what the Lord says:“ Let no wise man boast of his wisdom, nor let the mighty man boast of his might, nor a rich man boast of his riches;

Thus says the Lord:“ Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;

Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

This is what the Lord says: The wise man must not boast in his wisdom; the strong man must not boast in his strength; the wealthy man must not boast in his wealth.

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise[ man] glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty[ man] glory in his might, let not the rich[ man] glory in his riches:

The LORD says,“ Wise people should not boast that they are wise. Powerful people should not boast that they are powerful. Rich people should not boast that they are rich.

Yahweh says,“ Don’t let the wise man glory in his wisdom. Don’t let the mighty man glory in his might. Don’t let the rich man glory in his riches.

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong;God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are,so that no human being might boast in the presence of God.

Again I saw that under the sun the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor bread to the wise, nor riches to the intelligent, nor favor to those with knowledge, but time and chance happen to them all.

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and shrewd in their own sight!

Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise.For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written,“ He catches the wise in their craftiness,”and again,“ The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.”

Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

For it is written,“ I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.”Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.

They cast their silver into the streets, and their gold is like an unclean thing. Their silver and gold are not able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the Lord. They cannot satisfy their hunger or fill their stomachs with it. For it was the stumbling block of their iniquity.

Ben-hadad sent to him and said,“ The gods do so to me and more also, if the dust of Samaria shall suffice for handfuls for all the people who follow me.”And the king of Israel answered,“ Tell him,‘ Let not him who straps on his armor boast himself as he who takes it off.’”

those who trust in their wealth and boast of the abundance of their riches?Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life,for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice,that he should live on forever and never see the pit.For he sees that even the wise die; the fool and the stupid alike must perish and leave their wealth to others.Their graves are their homes forever, their dwelling places to all generations, though they called lands by their own names.Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish.This is the path of those who have foolish confidence; yet after them people approve of their boasts. Selah

The righteous shall see and fear, and shall laugh at him, saying,“ See the man who would not make God his refuge, but trusted in the abundance of his riches and sought refuge in his own destruction!”

Beware lest you say in your heart,‘ My power and the might of my hand have gotten me this wealth.’

Put no trust in extortion; set no vain hopes on robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

“ Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, Thus says the Lord God:“ Because your heart is proud, and you have said,‘ I am a god, I sit in the seat of the gods, in the heart of the seas,’ yet you are but a man, and no god, though you make your heart like the heart of a god—you are indeed wiser than Daniel; no secret is hidden from you;by your wisdom and your understanding you have made wealth for yourself, and have gathered gold and silver into your treasuries;by your great wisdom in your trade you have increased your wealth, and your heart has become proud in your wealth—therefore thus says the Lord God: Because you make your heart like the heart of a god,therefore, behold, I will bring foreigners upon you, the most ruthless of the nations; and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom and defile your splendor.They shall thrust you down into the pit, and you shall die the death of the slain in the heart of the seas.Will you still say,‘ I am a god,’ in the presence of those who kill you, though you are but a man, and no god, in the hands of those who slay you?

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

And the people were shouting,“ The voice of a god, and not of a man!”Immediately an angel of the Lord struck him down, because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and breathed his last.

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble.

“ If I have made gold my trust or called fine gold my confidence,if I have rejoiced because my wealth was abundant or because my hand had found much,

and the king answered and said,“ Is not this great Babylon, which I have built by my mighty power as a royal residence and for the glory of my majesty?”While the words were still in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven,“ O King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you,

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of the Lord. In the fire of his jealousy, all the earth shall be consumed; for a full and sudden end he will make of all the inhabitants of the earth.

When the Lord has finished all his work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, he will punish the speech of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria and the boastful look in his eyes.For he says:“ By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom, for I have understanding; I remove the boundaries of peoples, and plunder their treasures; like a bull I bring down those who sit on thrones.

for he says:“ Are not my commanders all kings?

And there came out from the camp of the Philistines a champion named Goliath of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span.He had a helmet of bronze on his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail, and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.And he had bronze armor on his legs, and a javelin of bronze slung between his shoulders.The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. And his shield-bearer went before him.He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel,“ Why have you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.If he is able to fight with me and kill me, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and kill him, then you shall be our servants and serve us.”And the Philistine said,“ I defy the ranks of Israel this day. Give me a man, that we may fight together.”

O king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father kingship and greatness and glory and majesty.And because of the greatness that he gave him, all peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him. Whom he would, he killed, and whom he would, he kept alive; whom he would, he raised up, and whom he would, he humbled.But when his heart was lifted up and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was brought down from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him.He was driven from among the children of mankind, and his mind was made like that of a beast, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys. He was fed grass like an ox, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, until he knew that the Most High God rules the kingdom of mankind and sets over it whom he will.And you his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,but you have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven. And the vessels of his house have been brought in before you, and you and your lords, your wives, and your concubines have drunk wine from them. And you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of bronze, iron, wood, and stone, which do not see or hear or know, but the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honored.

He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands achieve no success.He catches the wise in their own craftiness, and the schemes of the wily are brought to a quick end.They meet with darkness in the daytime and grope at noonday as in the night.

and the land of Egypt shall be a desolation and a waste. Then they will know that I am the Lord.“ Because you said,‘ The Nile is mine, and I made it,’

Flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not retain his strength, nor shall the mighty save his life;he who handles the bow shall not stand, and he who is swift of foot shall not save himself, nor shall he who rides the horse save his life;and he who is stout of heart among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day,” declares the Lord.

The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.

Then I saw that there is more gain in wisdom than in folly, as there is more gain in light than in darkness.The wise person has his eyes in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I perceived that the same event happens to all of them.Then I said in my heart,“ What happens to the fool will happen to me also. Why then have I been so very wise?” And I said in my heart that this also is vanity.For of the wise as of the fool there is no enduring remembrance, seeing that in the days to come all will have been long forgotten. How the wise dies just like the fool!

And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said to them again,“ Children, how difficult it is to enter the kingdom of God!

Come now, make a wager with my master the king of Assyria: I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.How then can you repulse a single captain among the least of my master’s servants, when you trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

And I will say to my soul,“ Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’

Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases.For when he dies he will carry nothing away; his glory will not go down after him.For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed— and though you get praise when you do well for yourself—

And when the Philistine looked and saw David, he disdained him, for he was but a youth, ruddy and handsome in appearance.

Now if you are ready when you hear the sound of the horn, pipe, lyre, trigon, harp, bagpipe, and every kind of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made, well and good. But if you do not worship, you shall immediately be cast into a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you out of my hands?”

and who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will be master of all for which I toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.
