孰為智者、克明斯事、耶和華與誰言、使之宣告、斯土何為被燬遭焚、有若曠野、無人經之、

遍地蕭條、恍若沙漠、人蹤罕至、焉得哲人、蒙予啟示、而言其故。

Who is wise enough to understand this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it? Why has the land been ruined and laid waste like a desert that no one can cross?

Who is wise enough to understand these things? Who has been taught by the Lord? Who can explain them? Why has the land been destroyed so completely? Why has it become like a desert that no one can go across?

Who is the man so wise that he can understand this? To whom has the mouth of the Lord spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined and laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?

Who is wise enough to understand all this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it to others? Why has the land been so ruined that no one dares to travel through it?

Who is the person wise enough to understand this? Who has the LORD spoken to, that he may explain it? Why is the land destroyed and scorched like a wilderness, so no one can pass through?

Who is the wise person who may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord has spoken, that he may declare it? Why is the land destroyed, laid waste like the desert, so that no one passes through?

Who is the wise man who may understand this? And who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord has spoken, that he may declare it? Why does the land perish and burn up like a wilderness, so that no one can pass through?

Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken, that he may declare it? wherefore is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passeth through?

Who[ is] the wise man, that may understand this? and[ who is he] to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth[ and] is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?

I said,“ Who is wise enough to understand why this has happened? Who has a word from the LORD that can explain it? Why does the land lie in ruins? Why is it as scorched as a desert through which no one travels?”

誰為智者而明此事乎、孰具聰明而知之乎、主之道無不正、義人履之、罪人顛仆其中、或作主之道無不公正善人履之惡人顛仆其上誰有智慧能明此理誰有聰明能知此事

凡有智慧者、當默想此事、思念今天主之恩慈、

主因居民之罪惡、使膏腴之地、變為鹵地、

此殿今雖崇高、凡過之者、必驚訝歎息歎息或作作嗤笑之聲曰、主如是行於斯地與斯殿何故、則必答曰、緣斯民棄主其天主、昔導其列祖出伊及者、親暱他神、奉事崇拜、故主降以是災、○

爾以此諸言告民、彼如問爾曰、主言必降此大災於我何故、我有何愆尤、干犯何罪於主我之天主前、爾則告之曰、主云、因爾列祖違棄我、從他神、奉事崇拜、棄我不守我法、爾行惡較祖尤甚、各縱惡慾、剛愎自用、不願聽我、故我驅逐爾出斯地、至爾與爾祖所未識之地、爾在彼、晝夜服事他神、我不向爾施矜恤、

其中先知結黨、若咆哮之獅、攫傷生物、彼吞食人民、強奪財寶、使其中多有嫠婦、其祭司犯我律法、瀆我聖物、不辨聖與不聖、不示人何為污、何為潔、其目不顧我之安息日、褻慢我於民中、其中牧伯、若狼攫傷生物、彼殺人流血、傷害人命、為獲不義之財、其先知為之遮掩、或作其先知向彼傳妄誕掩其罪過猶以灰塗墻、自言得默示、皆屬空浮、所占者盡虛偽、擅傳曰、主天主如是云、然主未嘗言之、斯地之民、行強暴與攘奪之事、欺凌貧者窮者、行不法虐遇客旅、我於其中尋一人、可補藩籬、可立於擊破之處以堵禦、於我前為國祈求、可立於擊破之處以堵禦於我前為國祈求原文作可於我前為國立於擊破之處免我殲滅之、亦不尋得、故我震怒降災斯眾、原文作故我傾洩我之忿怒於斯眾以我烈怒之火而滅之、依其行為、施報其身、身原文作首此乃主天主所言、

民若曰、主我之天主、降此諸災於我何故、爾耶利米則謂之曰、主曰、爾既棄我、於爾地事異邦之神、故必在非爾之地、事異邦之人、當傳揚於雅各族、宣示於猶大地、曰、

諸國之人、經過是邑、彼此問曰、主何為待此大邑如此、人必曰、皆因斯民棄主其天主之約、崇拜他神而服事之、○

爾後世子孫、及遠來之客旅、見此地之禍、暨主所降之災、硫磺與鹽、鹽或作硝焚燬徧地、不得耕種、不產物、不生草、如所多瑪、俄摩拉、押瑪、洗扁、主震怒時所傾覆者、彼與列邦人皆必問曰、主何為如此待此地、其怒若是之烈何故、人必對曰、緣斯民列祖之主天主、昔導之出伊及、與之立約而民背之、往奉事叩拜異邦之神、即素所不識之神、主未嘗命彼奉事者、故主震怒斯地、以此書所載之諸禍禍或作詛降之、大震其怒、氣忿甚烈、以斯民由其地拔除、投棄於異邦、有如今日之事、

此預言、凡讀者與聞而守其所錄者、乃為有福、蓋日期伊邇也、○

願其有智以明此、預思厥終、

爾見其舉止行為、則使爾覺安慰、爾曹則知我凡所行於耶路撒冷者、並非無故、此乃主天主所言、

爾觀先知但以理所言、殘賊可惡之物、立於聖地、讀者當悟之、
