I have listened attentively, but they do not say what is right. None of them repent of their wickedness, saying,“ What have I done?” Each pursues their own course like a horse charging into battle.

我傾耳以聽、彼不言正直、無人悔其惡行、曰、噫、我所為何事、彼各行其道、若馬之奔馳於陳、

我傾耳諦聽、人無正直之言、無悔罪之心、而內自訟焉、彼疾行其道、若馬之臨陳馳驅。

我傾耳細聽、聞彼出言不正、無人悔其惡行曰、我所為何哉、彼各仍奔其道、若馬之臨陣馳驟、

I have listened carefully. But they do not say what is right. They refuse to turn away from their sins. None of them says,‘ What have I done?’ Each of them goes their own way. They are like horses charging into battle.

I have paid attention and listened, but they have not spoken rightly; no man relents of his evil, saying,‘ What have I done?’ Everyone turns to his own course, like a horse plunging headlong into battle.

I listen to their conversations and don’t hear a word of truth. Is anyone sorry for doing wrong? Does anyone say,“ What a terrible thing I have done”? No! All are running down the path of sin as swiftly as a horse galloping into battle!

I hearkened and heard, but they spake not aright: no man repenteth him of his wickedness, saying, What have I done? every one turneth to his course, as a horse that rusheth headlong in the battle.

I listened and heard, but they didn’t say what is right. No one repents of his wickedness, saying,“ What have I done?” Everyone turns to his course, as a horse that rushes headlong in the battle.

The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God.

“ I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.

The faithful have been swept from the land; not one upright person remains. Everyone lies in wait to shed blood; they hunt each other with nets.

Then those who feared the Lord talked with each other, and the Lord listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the Lord and honored his name.

“ Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane?Do you make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting?It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray.It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword.The quiver rattles against its side, along with the flashing spear and lance.In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds.At the blast of the trumpet it snorts,‘ Aha!’ It catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry.

“ When he came to his senses, he said,‘ How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you.I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired servants.’

I say to God: Do not declare me guilty, but tell me what charges you have against me.

“ Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.

And they will go to others and say,‘ I have sinned, I have perverted what is right, but I did not get what I deserved.God has delivered me from going down to the pit, and I shall live to enjoy the light of life.’

Now this is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Give careful thought to your ways.

a wild donkey accustomed to the desert, sniffing the wind in her craving— in her heat who can restrain her? Any males that pursue her need not tire themselves; at mating time they will find her.Do not run until your feet are bare and your throat is dry. But you said,‘ It’s no use! I love foreign gods, and I must go after them.’

The rest of mankind who were not killed by these plagues still did not repent of the work of their hands; they did not stop worshiping demons, and idols of gold, silver, bronze, stone and wood— idols that cannot see or hear or walk.

He saw that there was no one, he was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so his own arm achieved salvation for him, and his own righteousness sustained him.

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!

This is what the Lord Almighty says:“ Give careful thought to your ways.
