Suppose you have been forced to go away to the farthest land on earth. The Lord your God will bring you back even from there.

I have told you about all these blessings and curses. The Lord your God will bring them on you. Then you will think carefully about the blessings and curses. You will think about them everywhere the Lord your God scatters you among the nations.

Here is what you people of Judah are saying about this city.“ By war, hunger and plague it will be handed over to the king of Babylon.” But here is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says.“ You can be sure that I will gather my people again. I will send them away when my burning anger blazes out against them. But I will bring them back to this place. And I will let them live in safety.

Why is it given to those who would rather search for death than for hidden treasure?Why is life given to those who are actually happy and glad when they reach the grave?

He has sent a message to us in Babylon. It says,‘ You will be there a long time. So build houses and make your homes there. Plant gardens and eat what they produce.’ ” ’ ”
