Since my people are crushed, I am crushed; I mourn, and horror grips me.

My people are crushed, so I am crushed. I mourn, and I am filled with horror.

For the wound of the daughter of my people is my heart wounded; I mourn, and dismay has taken hold on me.

I hurt with the hurt of my people. I mourn and am overcome with grief.

For the hurt of the daughter of my people I am hurt. I am mourning; Astonishment has taken hold of me.

For the hurt of the daughter of my people am I hurt; I am black; astonishment hath taken hold on me.

My heart is crushed because my dear people are being crushed. I go about crying and grieving. I am overwhelmed with dismay.

For the hurt of the daughter of my people, I am hurt. I mourn. Dismay has taken hold of me.

You are to speak this word to them: Let my eyes overflow with tears; day and night may they not stop, for the virgin daughter of my people has been destroyed by a great disaster, an extremely severe wound.

Nations writhe in horror before them; all faces turn pale.

Desolation, decimation, devastation! Hearts melt, knees tremble, loins shake, every face grows pale!

Daughters of Jerusalem, I am dark like the tents of Kedar, yet lovely like the curtains of Solomon.Do not stare at me because I am dark, for the sun has gazed on me. My mother’s sons were angry with me; they made me a keeper of the vineyards. I have not kept my own vineyard.

My anguish, my anguish! I writhe in agony! Oh, the pain in my heart! My heart pounds; I cannot be silent. For you, my soul, have heard the sound of the ram’s horn— the shout of battle.

If my head were a spring of water, my eyes a fountain of tears, I would weep day and night over the slain of my dear people.

I speak the truth in Christ— I am not lying; my conscience is testifying to me with the Holy Spirit—that I have intense sorrow and continual anguish in my heart.For I could almost wish to be cursed and cut off from the Messiah for the benefit of my brothers, my own flesh and blood.

for our captors there asked us for songs, and our tormentors, for rejoicing:“ Sing us one of the songs of Zion.”How can we sing the Lord’s song on foreign soil?If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.May my tongue stick to the roof of my mouth if I do not remember you, if I do not exalt Jerusalem as my greatest joy!

As He approached and saw the city, He wept over it,

But I have not run away from being Your shepherd, and I have not longed for the fatal day. You know my words were spoken in Your presence.

and replied to the king,“ May the king live forever! Why should I not be sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins and its gates have been destroyed by fire?”
