They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious.“ Peace, peace,” they say, when there is no peace.

They bandage the wounds of my people as if they were not very deep.‘ Peace, peace,’ they say. But there isn’t any peace.

They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying,‘ Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.

They offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wound. They give assurances of peace when there is no peace.

They have treated the brokenness of my dear people superficially, claiming,‘ Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.

For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of My people slightly, Saying,‘ Peace, peace!’ When there is no peace.

And they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.

They have treated superficially the brokenness of My dear people, claiming,‘ Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.

For they have healed the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when[ there is] no peace.

They offer only superficial help for the hurt my dear people have suffered. They say,“ Everything will be all right!” But everything is not all right!

They have healed the brokenness of My people superficially, Saying,‘ Peace, peace,’ But there is no peace.

Your prophets have seen for you Worthless and deceptive visions; And they have not exposed your wrongdoing So as to restore you from captivity, But they have seen for you worthless and misleading pronouncements.

Because you disheartened the righteous with falsehood when I did not cause him pain, but you have encouraged the wicked not to turn from his wicked way to keep him alive,

If someone walking after wind and falsehood Had lied and said,‘ I will prophesy to you about wine and liquor,’ He would become a prophet to this people.

Then the Lord said to me,“ The prophets are prophesying falsehood in My name. I have neither sent them nor commanded them, nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a false vision, divination, futility, and the deception of their own minds.Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them— yet they keep saying:‘ There will be no sword or famine in this land’— by sword and famine those prophets shall meet their end!

It is definitely because they have misled My people by saying,‘ Peace!’ when there is no peace. And when anyone builds a wall, behold, they plaster it over with whitewash;so tell those who plaster it over with whitewash, that it will fall. A flooding rain will come, and you, hailstones, will fall, and a violent wind will break out.Behold, when the wall has fallen, will you not be asked,‘ Where is the plaster with which you plastered it?’ ”Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ I will make a violent wind break out in My wrath. There will also be in My anger a flooding rain and hailstones to consume it in wrath.So I will tear down the wall which you plastered over with whitewash and hurl it down to the ground, so that its foundation is exposed; and when it falls, you will perish in its midst. And you will know that I am the Lord.So I will expend My wrath on the wall and on those who have plastered it over with whitewash; and I will say to you,‘ The wall is gone and those who plastered it are gone,along with the prophets of Israel who prophesy to Jerusalem, and who see a vision of peace for her when there is no peace,’ declares the Lord God.

So the king of Israel assembled the prophets, about four hundred men, and said to them,“ Should I go to battle against Ramoth gilead or should I refrain?” And they said,“ Go up, for the Lord will hand it over to the king.”

Then the messenger who went to summon Micaiah spoke to him saying,“ Behold now, the words of the prophets are unanimously favorable to the king. Please let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak favorably.”

And as for you, do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your soothsayers, or your sorcerers who talk to you, saying,“ You will not serve the king of Babylon.”For they are prophesying a lie to you in order to remove you far from your land; and I will drive you away and you will perish.

Within two years I am going to bring back to this place all the vessels of the Lord’s house, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took from this place and brought to Babylon.I am also going to bring back to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the exiles of Judah who went to Babylon,’ declares the Lord,‘ for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.’ ”Then Jeremiah the prophet spoke to the prophet Hananiah in the sight of the priests and in the sight of all the people who were standing at the house of the Lord,and Jeremiah the prophet said,“ Amen! May the Lord do so; may the Lord fulfill your words which you have prophesied, to bring back the vessels of the Lord’s house and all the exiles, from Babylon to this place.Yet hear now this word which I am going to speak so that you and all the people can hear it!The prophets who were before me and before you from ancient times also prophesied against many lands and against great kingdoms regarding war, disaster, and plague.As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes to pass, then that prophet will be known as one whom the Lord has truly sent.”
