我喜爱怜恤，不喜爱祭祀；我喜爱人认识神的知识，胜过人献的燔祭。

撒母耳说：“耶和华喜悦燔祭和平安祭，岂像喜悦人听从耶和华的话呢？听从胜过献祭，听命胜过公羊的脂油。

‘我喜爱怜悯，不喜爱祭祀’，你们去想一想这话的意思吧。我来不是要召义人，而是要召罪人。”

祭品和礼物不是你喜悦的。你开通了我的耳朵；燔祭和赎罪祭，不是你要求的。

因为你不喜爱祭物；我就是献上燔祭，你也不喜悦。神所要的祭，就是破碎的灵；神啊！破碎痛悔的心，你必不轻看。

我不是因你的祭物责备你，你的燔祭常在我面前。我不从你家里取公牛，也不从你羊圈中取公山羊。因为树林中的百兽是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。山中的雀鸟我都认识，田野的走兽也都属我。如果我饿了，我也不用对你说；因为世界和其中所充满的，都是我的。难道我要吃公牛的肉吗？要喝公山羊的血吗？你要以感谢为祭献给神，又要向至高者还你的愿。在患难的日子，你呼求我。我必搭救你，你也必尊敬我。”但神对恶人说：“你怎么敢述说我的律例，你的口怎么敢提到我的约呢？至于你，你憎恨管教，并且把我的话丢在背后。

我们要用全心、全意、全力去爱他，并且要爱人如己，这就比一切燔祭和各样祭物好得多了。”
