“‘ Go now to the place at Shiloh where I once put the Tabernacle that bore my name. See what I did there because of all the wickedness of my people, the Israelites.

“‘ Go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for my Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of my people Israel.

“‘ “Go now to the town of Shiloh. Go to the place where I first made a home for my Name. See what I did to it because of the evil things my people Israel were doing.

Go now to my place that was in Shiloh, where I made my name dwell at first, and see what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel.

“‘ But return to my place that was at Shiloh, where I made my name dwell at first. See what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel.

So, go to the place in Shiloh where I allowed myself to be worshiped in the early days. See what I did to it because of the wicked things my people Israel did.

So the Philistines fought desperately, and Israel was defeated again. The slaughter was great; 30,000 Israelite soldiers died that day. The survivors turned and fled to their tents.The Ark of God was captured, and Hophni and Phinehas, the two sons of Eli, were killed.

So Micah’s carved image was worshiped by the tribe of Dan as long as the Tabernacle of God remained at Shiloh.

then I will destroy this Temple as I destroyed Shiloh, the place where the Tabernacle was located. And I will make Jerusalem an object of cursing in every nation on earth.’”

Then she said,“ The glory has departed from Israel, for the Ark of God has been captured.”

Now that the land was under Israelite control, the entire community of Israel gathered at Shiloh and set up the Tabernacle.

Then he abandoned his dwelling at Shiloh, the Tabernacle where he had lived among the people.He allowed the Ark of his might to be captured; he surrendered his glory into enemy hands.He gave his people over to be butchered by the sword, because he was so angry with his own people— his special possession.Their young men were killed by fire; their young women died before singing their wedding songs.Their priests were slaughtered, and their widows could not mourn their deaths.

After the battle was over, the troops retreated to their camp, and the elders of Israel asked,“ Why did the Lord allow us to be defeated by the Philistines?” Then they said,“ Let’s bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord from Shiloh. If we carry it into battle with us, it will save us from our enemies.”So they sent men to Shiloh to bring the Ark of the Covenant of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, who is enthroned between the cherubim. Hophni and Phinehas, the sons of Eli, were also there with the Ark of the Covenant of God.

you must bring everything I command you— your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, your sacred offerings, and your offerings to fulfill a vow— to the designated place of worship, the place the Lord your God chooses for his name to be honored.

Each year Elkanah would travel to Shiloh to worship and sacrifice to the Lord of Heaven’s Armies at the Tabernacle. The priests of the Lord at that time were the two sons of Eli— Hophni and Phinehas.

Rather, you must seek the Lord your God at the place of worship he himself will choose from among all the tribes— the place where his name will be honored.
