他作王的第九年、十月十日、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒來了，他和他的全軍來攻耶路撒冷，紮營攻城，四圍築壘來攻打。於是那城被圍困、直到西底家王十一年。四月九日、城裏大鬧饑荒，甚至當地的人民都沒有糧食。城被攻破，王和所有的戰士就在夜間從靠近王家園子兩城牆中間的門那路向出城逃跑；那時迦勒底人正在四圍攻城；他們就按亞拉巴路向走。

要向列國提說：「看哪！他來了」，要將攻擊耶路撒冷的事公布出來：『有圍困者從遠地來到，向猶大的城市大聲挑戰。他們把耶路撒冷四面圍住，好像看守田地的，因為她悖逆了我：這是永恆主發神諭說的。

永恆主打發迦勒底人的遊擊隊、亞蘭人的遊擊隊、摩押人的遊擊隊、和亞捫人的遊擊隊：他打發這些人來攻擊猶大、要毁滅它，正如永恆主的話，由他僕人神言人們經手所說過的。

亞述王啊，你的牧民者在睡覺呢！你的貴族在安歇着呢！你的人民四散在山間，無人招聚呢！

有許多敵性牧人毁壞了我的葡萄園，踐踏了我的業分，使我可喜愛的業分變為荒涼的野地。

猶大王西底家九年十月、巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒率領了他的全軍來到耶路撒冷，圍攻它。西底家十一年四月九日、城被攻破。耶路撒冷被攻取的時候，巴比倫王的眾貴族：尼甲沙利薛、三甲尼波撒西金、要人首領、尼甲沙利薛、貴族首領、和巴比倫王其餘的一切貴族、都來，坐在中門。

那時巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒上耶路撒冷來，耶路撒冷城就被圍困。巴比倫王尼布甲尼撒親自來攻那城，他的臣僕繼續將城圍困。猶大王約雅斤出來投降巴比倫王，他和他母親、臣僕、大臣和內侍都出來；巴比倫王便拿住他，那是巴比倫王在位第八年。
