We have heard reports about them, and our hands hang limp. Anguish has gripped us, pain like that of a woman in labor.

We have heard reports about them. And our hands can’t help us. We are suffering greatly. It’s like the pain of a woman having a baby.

The king of Babylon has heard the news of them, and his hands become feeble: anguish has taken hold of him, pains as of a woman in labor.

“ Therefore sigh, you son of man. You shall sigh before their eyes with a broken heart and with bitterness.It shall be, when they ask you,‘ Why do you sigh?’ that you shall say,‘ Because of the news, for it comes! Every heart will melt, all hands will be feeble, every spirit will faint, and all knees will be weak as water. Behold, it comes, and it shall be done, says the Lord Yahweh.’”

Set up a standard toward Zion. Flee for safety! Don’t wait; for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.”A lion has gone up from his thicket, and a destroyer of nations. He is on his way. He has gone out from his place, to make your land desolate, that your cities be laid waste, without inhabitant.For this, clothe yourself with sackcloth, lament and wail; for the fierce anger of Yahweh hasn’t turned back from us.“ It will happen at that day,” says Yahweh,“ that the heart of the king will perish, along with the heart of the princes. The priests will be astonished, and the prophets will wonder.”

Trembling took hold of them there, pain, as of a woman in travail.

when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when your disaster comes on like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come on you.Then they will call on me, but I will not answer. They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me;

Now why do you cry out aloud? Is there no king in you? Has your counselor perished, that pains have taken hold of you as of a woman in travail?Be in pain, and labor to give birth, daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail; for now you will go out of the city, and will dwell in the field, and will come even to Babylon. There you will be rescued. There Yahweh will redeem you from the hand of your enemies.
