From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only[ to] understand the report.

Ask ye now, and see whether a man doth travail with child? wherefore do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

Therefore are my loins filled with pain: pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman that travaileth: I was bowed down at the hearing[ of it]; I was dismayed at the seeing[ of it].

When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.

O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate;[ and] thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD,[ that] the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Now why dost thou cry out aloud?[ is there] no king in thee? is thy counsellor perished? for pangs have taken thee as a woman in travail.Be in pain, and labour to bring forth, O daughter of Zion, like a woman in travail: for now shalt thou go forth out of the city, and thou shalt dwell in the field, and thou shalt go[ even] to Babylon; there shalt thou be delivered; there the LORD shall redeem thee from the hand of thine enemies.
