I take no delight when they offer up to me frankincense that comes from Sheba or sweet-smelling cane imported from a faraway land. I cannot accept the burnt offerings they bring me. I get no pleasure from the sacrifices they offer to me.’

“ What are the multitude of your sacrifices to me?”, says Yahweh.“ I have had enough of the burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fed animals. I don’t delight in the blood of bulls, or of lambs, or of male goats.

I hate, I despise your feasts, and I can’t stand your solemn assemblies.Yes, though you offer me your burnt offerings and meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat animals.

How shall I come before Yahweh, and bow myself before the exalted God? Shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?Will Yahweh be pleased with thousands of rams? With tens of thousands of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my disobedience? The fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?He has shown you, O man, what is good. What does Yahweh require of you, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?

Sacrifice and offering you didn’t desire. You have opened my ears. You have not required burnt offering and sin offering.

A multitude of camels will cover you, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah. All from Sheba will come. They will bring gold and frankincense, and will proclaim the praises of Yahweh.

“ Hear, my people, and I will speak. Israel, I will testify against you. I am God, your God.I don’t rebuke you for your sacrifices. Your burnt offerings are continually before me.I have no need for a bull from your stall, nor male goats from your pens.For every animal of the forest is mine, and the livestock on a thousand hills.I know all the birds of the mountains. The wild animals of the field are mine.If I were hungry, I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.Will I eat the meat of bulls, or drink the blood of goats?

You have not brought me any of your sheep for burnt offerings, neither have you honored me with your sacrifices. I have not burdened you with offerings, nor wearied you with frankincense.You have bought me no sweet cane with money, nor have you filled me with the fat of your sacrifices, but you have burdened me with your sins. You have wearied me with your iniquities.

He who kills an ox is as he who kills a man; he who sacrifices a lamb, as he who breaks a dog’s neck; he who offers an offering, as he who offers pig’s blood; he who burns frankincense, as he who blesses an idol. Yes, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations:

She gave the king one hundred twenty talents of gold, and a very great quantity of spices, and precious stones. Never again was there such an abundance of spices as these which the queen of Sheba gave to king Solomon.

Tell God,“ How awesome are your deeds! Through the greatness of your power, your enemies submit themselves to you.

When the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning Yahweh’s name, she came to test him with hard questions.She came to Jerusalem with a very great caravan, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and precious stones; and when she had come to Solomon, she talked with him about all that was in her heart.

But to the wicked God says,“ What right do you have to declare my statutes, that you have taken my covenant on your lips,since you hate instruction, and throw my words behind you?
