There at Riblah, in the land of Hamath, the king had them executed. So Judah went into captivity, away from her land.

Then I said,“ Until when, Lord?” And he replied: Until cities lie in ruins without inhabitants, houses are without people, the land is ruined and desolate,and the LORD drives the people far away, leaving great emptiness in the land.

Seventy elders from the house of Israel were standing before them, with Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing among them. Each had a firepan in his hand, and a fragrant cloud of incense was rising up.He said to me,“ Son of man, do you see what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each at the shrine of his idol? For they are saying,‘ The LORD does not see us. The LORD has abandoned the land.’”Again he said to me,“ You will see even more detestable acts that they are committing.”Then he brought me to the entrance of the north gate of the LORD’s house, and I saw women sitting there weeping for Tammuz.And he said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? You will see even more detestable acts than these.”So he brought me to the inner court of the LORD’s house, and there were about twenty-five men at the entrance of the LORD’s temple, between the portico and the altar, with their backs to the LORD’s temple and their faces turned to the east. They were bowing to the east in worship of the sun.And he said to me,“ Do you see this, son of man? Is it not enough for the house of Judah to commit the detestable acts they are doing here, that they must also fill the land with violence and repeatedly anger me, even putting the branch to their nose?Therefore I will respond with wrath. I will not show pity or spare them. Though they call loudly in my hearing, I will not listen to them.”

The earth will be stripped completely bare and will be totally plundered, for the LORD has spoken this message.

I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that you will quickly perish from the land you are about to cross the Jordan to possess. You will not live long there, but you will certainly be destroyed.

Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guards, took them and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah.The king of Babylon put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. So Judah went into exile from its land.

for this is what the LORD says,‘ I am about to make you a terror to both yourself and those you love. They will fall by the sword of their enemies before your very eyes. I will hand Judah over to the king of Babylon, and he will deport them to Babylon and put them to the sword.

Among them I saw Jaazaniah son of Azzur, and Pelatiah son of Benaiah, leaders of the people.The LORD said to me,“ Son of man, these are the men who plot evil and give wicked advice in this city.They are saying,‘ Isn’t the time near to build houses? The city is the pot, and we are the meat.’Therefore, prophesy against them. Prophesy, son of man!”Then the Spirit of the LORD came on me, and he told me,“ You are to say,‘ This is what the LORD says: That is what you are thinking, house of Israel; and I know the thoughts that arise in your mind.You have multiplied your slain in this city, filling its streets with them.“‘ Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: The slain you have put within it are the meat, and the city is the pot, but I will take you out of it.You fear the sword, so I will bring the sword against you. This is the declaration of the Lord GOD.I will take you out of the city and hand you over to foreigners; I will execute judgments against you.You will fall by the sword, and I will judge you at the border of Israel. Then you will know that I am the LORD.The city will not be a pot for you, and you will not be the meat within it. I will judge you at the border of Israel,

When King Toi of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer,

I will make them an object of horror and a disaster to all the kingdoms of the earth, an example for disgrace, scorn, ridicule, and cursing, wherever I have banished them.I will send the sword, famine, and plague against them until they have perished from the land I gave to them and their ancestors.”

“ The LORD will bring you and your king that you have appointed to a nation neither you nor your ancestors have known, and there you will worship other gods, of wood and stone.

For from the least to the greatest of them, everyone is making profit dishonestly. From prophet to priest, everyone deals falsely.They have treated my people’s brokenness superficially, claiming,“ Peace, peace,” when there is no peace.Were they ashamed when they acted so detestably? They weren’t at all ashamed. They can no longer feel humiliation. Therefore, they will fall among the fallen. When I punish them, they will collapse, says the LORD.

The Chaldeans seized the king and brought him to the king of Babylon at Riblah in the land of Hamath, and he passed sentence on him.

For the LORD had said,“ I will also remove Judah from my presence just as I have removed Israel. I will reject this city Jerusalem, that I have chosen, and the temple about which I said,‘ My name will be there.’”

So the LORD rejected all the descendants of Israel, punished them, and handed them over to plunderers until he had banished them from his presence.

Finally, the LORD removed Israel from his presence just as he had declared through all his servants the prophets. So Israel has been exiled to Assyria from their homeland to this very day.

However, Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guards, left in the land of Judah some of the poor people who owned nothing, and he gave them vineyards and fields at that time.

But I will scatter you among the nations, and I will draw a sword to chase after you. So your land will become desolate, and your cities will become ruins.“ Then the land will make up for its Sabbath years during the time it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and make up for its Sabbaths.As long as it lies desolate, it will have the rest it did not have during your Sabbaths when you lived there.
