Zedekiah did what was evil in the eyes of the Lord. He did just as Jehoiakim had done.

And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that Jehoiakim had done.

But Zedekiah did what was evil in the Lord’s sight, just as Jehoiakim had done.

As I live,’ declares the Lord God,‘ In the country of the king who put him on the throne, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke, in Babylon he shall certainly die.Pharaoh with his mighty army and great contingent will not help him in the war, when they pile up assault ramps and build siege walls to eliminate many lives.Now he despised the oath by breaking the covenant, and behold, he pledged his allegiance, yet did all these things; he shall not escape.’ ”Therefore, this is what the Lord God says:“ As I live, My oath which he despised and My covenant which he broke, I will certainly inflict on his head.And I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My net. Then I will bring him to Babylon and enter into judgment with him there regarding the unfaithful act which he has committed against Me.

Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe. And Jehudi read it to the king as well as to all the officials who were standing beside the king.Now the king was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month, with a fire burning in the brazier before him.And when Jehudi had read three or four columns, the king cut it with a scribe’s knife and threw it into the fire that was in the brazier, until all of the scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier.

But he stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the Lord God of Israel.

When King Jehoiakim and all his warriors and all the officials heard his words, then the king sought to put him to death; but Uriah heard about it, and he was afraid, so he fled and went to Egypt.Then King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan the son of Achbor and certain men with him, to Egypt.And they brought Uriah from Egypt and led him to King Jehoiakim, who killed him with a sword and threw his dead body into the burial place of the common people.

And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say,‘ This is what the Lord says:“ You have burned this scroll, saying,‘ Why have you written on it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will make mankind and animals disappear from it?’ ”Therefore this is what the Lord says concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah:“ He shall have no one to sit on the throne of David, and his dead body shall be thrown out to the heat of the day and the frost of the night.I will also punish him, his descendants, and his servants for their wrongdoing, and I will bring on them and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the people of Judah all the disaster that I have declared to them— but they did not listen.” ’ ”

He did evil in the sight of the Lord, in accordance with everything that Jehoiakim had done.For it was due to the anger of the Lord that this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, until He cast them out of His presence. And Zedekiah revolted against the king of Babylon.
