“ The nations say,‘ We would have healed Babylon. But it can’t be healed. So let’s leave it. Let’s each go to our own land. Babylon’s sins reach all the way to the skies. They rise up as high as the heavens.’

因她的罪惡滔天；她的不義，神已經想起來了。

使多人絆跌；他們也彼此撞倒，說：起來吧！我們再往本民本地去，好躲避欺壓的刀劍。

說：「我的神啊，我抱愧蒙羞，不敢向我神仰面；因為我們的罪孽滅頂，我們的罪惡滔天。

但那裏有耶和華的一個先知，名叫俄德，出來迎接往撒馬利亞去的軍兵，對他們說：「因為耶和華－你們列祖的神惱怒猶大人，所以將他們交在你們手裏，你們竟怒氣沖天，大行殺戮。

你所勞神的事都要這樣與你無益；從幼年與你貿易的也都各奔各鄉，無人救你。

麥秋已過，夏令已完，我們還未得救！

你所見的樹漸長，而且堅固，高得頂天，從地極都能看見；葉子華美，果子甚多，可作眾生的食物；田野的走獸住在其下；天空的飛鳥宿在枝上。「王啊，這漸長又堅固的樹就是你。你的威勢漸長及天，你的權柄管到地極。

她們去買的時候，新郎到了。那預備好了的，同他進去坐席，門就關了。其餘的童女隨後也來了，說：『主啊，主啊，給我們開門！』他卻回答說：『我實在告訴你們，我不認識你們。』所以，你們要警醒；因為那日子，那時辰，你們不知道。」

其中的雇勇好像圈裏的肥牛犢，他們轉身退後，一齊逃跑，站立不住；因為他們遭難的日子、追討的時候已經臨到。
