當夜，迦勒底人的王伯沙撒被殺了。米底亞人大流士接取這國；當時他六十二歲。

伯沙撒王為他的一千名大臣擺設了盛大的宴席，當著這一千人的面喝酒。伯沙撒酒酣之時，吩咐人把他先王尼布甲尼撒從耶路撒冷的聖殿中取走的金銀器皿帶來，好讓王和他的大臣們、妻子們、妃嬪們都用這些來喝酒。於是人把聖殿——耶路撒冷神的殿中所取走的金器皿帶來，王和他的大臣們、妻子們、妃嬪們就用這些來喝酒。他們一邊喝酒，一邊稱讚那些用金、銀、銅、鐵、木、石所做的神明。

於是耶和華的使者出去，在亞述的營中擊殺了十八萬五千人；清早人們起來，看哪，所見的都是死屍！

我的心慌亂，恐怖驚擾著我，我所愛慕的黃昏竟使我恐懼。筵席已擺設，地毯已鋪上，人們又吃又喝——首領們哪，起來！用油擦抹盾牌！

她怎樣待人，你們也要怎樣待她，並照著她的行為加倍地報應她；你們要在她混合酒的杯子裡，加倍地混合給她喝。她怎樣炫耀自己、驕奢淫逸，你們也要照樣給她折磨和悲傷，因為她心裡說：『我坐著女王的位子，我不是寡婦，絕不會經歷悲傷。』

地上的眾君王，就是那些與她行淫亂、一同驕奢淫逸的，當看見焚燒她時的煙，就會為她捶胸哀哭。
