当夜，迦勒底人的王伯沙撒被杀了。米底亚人大流士接取这国；当时他六十二岁。

伯沙撒王为他的一千名大臣摆设了盛大的宴席，当着这一千人的面喝酒。伯沙撒酒酣之时，吩咐人把他先王尼布甲尼撒从耶路撒冷的圣殿中取走的金银器皿带来，好让王和他的大臣们、妻子们、妃嫔们都用这些来喝酒。于是人把圣殿——耶路撒冷神的殿中所取走的金器皿带来，王和他的大臣们、妻子们、妃嫔们就用这些来喝酒。他们一边喝酒，一边称赞那些用金、银、铜、铁、木、石所做的神明。

于是耶和华的使者出去，在亚述的营中击杀了十八万五千人；清早人们起来，看哪，所见的都是死尸！

我的心慌乱，恐怖惊扰着我，我所爱慕的黄昏竟使我恐惧。筵席已摆设，地毯已铺上，人们又吃又喝——首领们哪，起来！用油擦抹盾牌！

她怎样待人，你们也要怎样待她，并照着她的行为加倍地报应她；你们要在她混合酒的杯子里，加倍地混合给她喝。她怎样炫耀自己、骄奢淫逸，你们也要照样给她折磨和悲伤，因为她心里说：‘我坐着女王的位子，我不是寡妇，绝不会经历悲伤。’

地上的众君王，就是那些与她行淫乱、一同骄奢淫逸的，当看见焚烧她时的烟，就会为她捶胸哀哭。
