“ We are disgraced, for we have been insulted and shame covers our faces, because foreigners have entered the holy places of the Lord’s house.”

The people of Judah reply,“ No one honors us anymore. People make fun of us. Our faces are covered with shame. People from other lands have entered the holy places of the Lord’ s house.”

‘ We are put to shame, for we have heard reproach; dishonor has covered our face, for foreigners have come into the holy places of the Lord’s house.’

“ We are ashamed,” the people say.“ We are insulted and disgraced because the Lord’s Temple has been defiled by foreigners.”

Lift up thy feet unto the perpetual ruins, All the evil that the enemy hath done in the sanctuary.Thine adversaries have roared in the midst of thine assembly; They have set up their ensigns for signs.They seemed as men that lifted up Axes upon a thicket of trees.And now all the carved work thereof They break down with hatchet and hammers.They have set thy sanctuary on fire; They have profaned the dwelling- place of thy name by casting it to the ground.

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me,For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.

See, O Jehovah, and behold to whom thou hast done thus! Shall the women eat their fruit, the children that are dandled in the hands? Shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

Remember, O Jehovah, what is come upon us: Behold, and see our reproach.

Surely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O Jehovah, And that a foolish people hath blasphemed thy name.Oh deliver not the soul of thy turtle- dove unto the wild beast: Forget not the life of thy poor for ever.Have respect unto the covenant; For the dark places of the earth are full of the habitations of violence.Oh let not the oppressed return ashamed: Let the poor and needy praise thy name.

And forces shall stand on his part, and they shall profane the sanctuary, even the fortress, and shall take away the continual burnt- offering, and they shall set up the abomination that maketh desolate.

Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us; For we are exceedingly filled with contempt.Our soul is exceedingly filled With the scoffing of those that are at ease, And with the contempt of the proud.

And their nobles send their little ones to the waters: they come to the cisterns, and find no water; they return with their vessels empty; they are put to shame and confounded, and cover their heads.

Speak unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Behold, I will profane my sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and that which your soul pitieth; and your sons and your daughters whom ye have left behind shall fall by the sword.

O God, the nations are come into thine inheritance; Thy holy temple have they defiled; They have laid Jerusalem in heaps.

And I will give it into the hands of the strangers for a prey, and to the wicked of the earth for a spoil; and they shall profane it.My face will I turn also from them, and they shall profane my secret place; and robbers shall enter into it, and profane it.

And after the threescore and two weeks shall the anointed one be cut off, and shall have nothing: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and even unto the end shall be war; desolations are determined.And he shall make a firm covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease; and upon the wing of abominations shall come one that maketh desolate; and even unto the full end, and that determined, shall wrath be poured out upon the desolate.

Yea, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the host; and it took away from him the continual burnt- offering, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.And the host was given over to it together with the continual burnt- offering through transgression; and it cast down truth to the ground, and it did its pleasure and prospered.Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said unto that certain one who spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the continual burnt- offering, and the transgression that maketh desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

And there was given me a reed like unto a rod: and one said, Rise, and measure the temple of God, and the altar, and them that worship therein.And the court which is without the temple leave without, and measure it not; for it hath been given unto the nations: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

Then mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is Jehovah thy God? Mine eyes shall see my desire upon her; now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye may receive no more the reproach of famine among the nations.

All that pass by clap their hands at thee; They hiss and wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying, Is this the city that men called The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth?All thine enemies have opened their mouth wide against thee; They hiss and gnash the teeth; they say, We have swallowed her up; Certainly this is the day that we looked for; we have found, we have seen it.Jehovah hath done that which he purposed; he hath fulfilled his word that he commanded in the days of old; He hath thrown down, and hath not pitied: And he hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee; he hath exalted the horn of thine adversaries.

Return, ye backsliding children, I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we are come unto thee; for thou art Jehovah our God.Truly in vain is the help that is looked for from the hills, the tumult on the mountains: truly in Jehovah our God is the salvation of Israel.But the shameful thing hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth, their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.Let us lie down in our shame, and let our confusion cover us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day; and we have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.

By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.Upon the willows in the midst thereof We hanged up our harps.For there they that led us captive required of us songs, And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

And he burned the house of Jehovah, and the king’s house; and all the houses of Jerusalem, even every great house, burned he with fire.

They shall also gird themselves with sackcloth, and horror shall cover them; and shame shall be upon all faces, and baldness upon all their heads.

And render unto our neighbors sevenfold into their bosom Their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lord.

Let them be put to shame and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; Let them be covered with reproach and dishonor that seek my hurt.

And he said unto them, Defile the house, and fill the courts with the slain: go ye forth. And they went forth, and smote in the city.
