For the time will surely come when I will punish the idols of Babylon; her whole land will be disgraced and her slain will all lie fallen within her.

I will punish the gods of Babylon. That time will certainly come. Then the whole land will be full of shame. Its people will lie down and die there.

“ Therefore, behold, the days are coming when I will punish the images of Babylon; her whole land shall be put to shame, and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

For the time is surely coming when I will punish this great city and all her idols. Her whole land will be disgraced, and her dead will lie in the streets.

“ Declare among the nations and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and don’t conceal: say,‘ Babylon has been taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodach is dismayed! Her images are disappointed. Her idols are dismayed.’

“ Therefore behold, the days come,” says Yahweh,“ that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; and through all her land the wounded will groan.

Bel bows down. Nebo stoops. Their idols are carried by animals, and on the livestock. The things that you carried around are heavy loads, a burden for the weary.They stoop and they bow down together. They could not deliver the burden, but they have gone into captivity.

Behold, here comes a troop of men, horsemen in pairs.” He answered,“ Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the engraved images of her gods are broken to the ground.

“ A sword is on the Chaldeans,” says Yahweh,“ and on the inhabitants of Babylon, on her princes, and on her wise men.A sword is on the boasters, and they will become fools. A sword is on her mighty men, and they will be dismayed.A sword is on their horses, on their chariots, and on all the mixed people who are in the middle of her; and they will become as women. A sword is on her treasures, and they will be robbed.A drought is on her waters, and they will be dried up; for it is a land of engraved images, and they are mad over idols.Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor cities,” says Yahweh,“ so no man will dwell there, neither will any son of man live therein.

They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation, they will perish.

“ It will happen, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation,” says Yahweh,“ for their iniquity. I will make the land of the Chaldeans desolate forever.

“ I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight,” says Yahweh.

What will you say, when he sets over you as head those whom you have yourself taught to be friends to you? Won’t sorrows take hold of you, as of a woman in travail?

Her cities have become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells. No son of man passes by it.

therefore Yahweh of Armies says,‘ Behold, I will punish them. The young men will die by the sword. Their sons and their daughters will die by famine.

your mother will be utterly disappointed. She who bore you will be confounded. Behold, she will be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.Because of Yahweh’s wrath she won’t be inhabited, but she will be wholly desolate. Everyone who goes by Babylon will be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her. Spare no arrows; for she has sinned against Yahweh.Shout against her all around. She has submitted herself. Her bulwarks have fallen. Her walls have been thrown down, for it is the vengeance of Yahweh. Take vengeance on her. As she has done, do to her.Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest. For fear of the oppressing sword, they will each return to their own people, and they will each flee to their own land.

As for the prophet, the priest, and the people, who say,‘ The message from Yahweh,’ I will even punish that man and his household.
