For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon a gathering of great nations, from the north country. And they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be taken. Their arrows are like a skilled warrior who does not return empty-handed.

波斯王居鲁士元年，耶和华为要应验藉耶利米的口所说的话，就激发波斯王居鲁士的心，使他下诏书通告全国，说：“波斯王居鲁士如此说：耶和华天上的上帝已将地上万国赐给我，又委派我在犹大的耶路撒冷为他建造殿宇。

你们要在荒凉的山上竖立大旗，向他们扬声，挥手招呼他们进入贵族之门。我吩咐我所分别为圣的人，召唤我的勇士，就是我那狂喜高傲的人，为要执行我的怒气。听啊，山间有喧闹的声音，好像有许多百姓聚集，听啊，多国之民聚集闹哄的声音；这是万军之耶和华召集作战的军队。他们从远方来，从天边来，耶和华和他恼恨的兵器要毁灭全地。

我从北方兴起一人，他从日出之地而来，是求告我名的；他必踩踏掌权者，如踩踏泥土，又如陶匠踹泥一般。

你们要从极远的边界前来攻击它，要开它的仓廪，将它堆起如高堆，毁灭净尽，丝毫不留。

看哪，我必激起玛代人攻击他们，玛代人并不看重银子，也不喜爱金子。他们必用弓击溃青年，不怜悯妇人所生的；眼也不顾惜孩子。

有凄惨的异象向我揭示：“诡诈的在行诡诈，毁灭的在行毁灭。以拦哪，前进吧！玛代啊，围攻吧！我使它一切的叹息停止了。”
