For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon a gathering of great nations, from the north country. And they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be taken. Their arrows are like a skilled warrior who does not return empty-handed.

波斯王居魯士元年，耶和華為要應驗藉耶利米的口所說的話，就激發波斯王居魯士的心，使他下詔書通告全國，說：「波斯王居魯士如此說：耶和華天上的神已將地上萬國賜給我，又委派我在猶大的耶路撒冷為他建造殿宇。

我從北方興起一人，他從日出之地而來，是求告我名的；他必踩踏掌權者，如踩踏泥土，又如陶匠踹泥一般。

你們要從極遠的邊界前來攻擊它，要開它的倉廩，將它堆起如高堆，毀滅淨盡，絲毫不留。

看哪，我必激起瑪代人攻擊他們，瑪代人並不看重銀子，也不喜愛金子。他們必用弓擊潰青年，不憐憫婦人所生的；眼也不顧惜孩子。

有悽慘的異象向我揭示：「詭詐的在行詭詐，毀滅的在行毀滅。以攔哪，前進吧！瑪代啊，圍攻吧！我使它一切的嘆息停止了。」

耶和華對所膏的居魯士如此說，他的右手我曾攙扶，使列國降服在他面前，列王的腰帶我曾鬆開，使城門在他面前敞開，不得關閉：「我要在你前面行，修平崎嶇之地。我必打破銅門，砍斷鐵閂。我要將暗中的寶物和隱藏的財富賜給你，使你知道提名召你的就是我－耶和華，以色列的神。因我的僕人雅各，我所揀選的以色列，我提名召你；你雖不認識我，我也加給你名號。
