For I will stir up and bring against Babylon an alliance of great nations from the land of the north. They will take up their positions against her, and from the north she will be captured. Their arrows will be like skilled warriors who do not return empty-handed.

For behold, I am stirring up and bringing against Babylon a gathering of great nations, from the north country. And they shall array themselves against her. From there she shall be taken. Their arrows are like a skilled warrior who does not return empty-handed.

For I am raising up an army of great nations from the north. They will join forces to attack Babylon, and she will be captured. The enemies’ arrows will go straight to the mark; they will not miss!

For, lo, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her; from thence she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of an expert mighty man; none shall return in vain.

耶和华说：“看啊，我要使毁灭的暴风袭击巴比伦和住在立加米的人。毁灭巴比伦人的日子一到，我要差遣外族人从四面八方攻击、消灭他们，如同狂风卷走碎秸。不要让他们的弓箭手有机会射箭，不要让他们的战士有机会穿铠甲，不要放过他们的青年，要使他们全军覆没。他们将被刀剑刺透，倒毙在自己的土地上，横尸街头。

“看啊，大军要从北方而来，一个强国及其盟军要从地极而来。巴比伦人啊，他们残忍无道，手持弓箭和矛枪，骑着战马，列阵攻击你们，声势如翻腾的大海。

把你们掳到陌生的地方。我的怒火要烧灭你们。”

波斯王塞鲁士元年，耶和华为要应验祂借耶利米所说的话，就感动波斯王塞鲁士，使他下诏通告全国：“波斯王塞鲁士如此说，‘天上的上帝耶和华已把天下万国都赐给我，祂吩咐我在犹大的耶路撒冷为祂建造殿宇。

要在光秃的山顶上竖立旗帜，向战士高呼，挥手示意他们进攻贵族居住的城。我已向我拣选的士兵发出命令，我已号召我的勇士去倾倒我的烈怒，他们因我的胜利而欢喜。听啊，山上人声鼎沸，像是大军的声音。那是列邦列国聚集呐喊的声音。万军之耶和华正在召集军队，准备作战。他们从地极，从天边而来。那是耶和华及倾倒祂烈怒的兵器，要来毁灭大地。

“我使一人从北方兴起，他来了，他在东方求告我的名。他必把掌权者像灰泥一样踏在脚下，像窑匠踩泥一样践踏。

你们要从远方前来攻打巴比伦，打开她的粮仓，使她沦为一堆废墟，彻底毁灭她，不留一物。

看啊，我要驱使玛代人来攻击他们。玛代人不在乎金子，也不看重银子，他们必用弓箭射死青年，不怜悯婴儿，也不顾惜孩童。

“你们要去攻打米拉大翁和比割的居民，照我的命令彻底消灭他们。这是耶和华说的。

“要召集所有的弓箭手来攻打巴比伦，在她四围扎营，不让一人漏网。要照她的所作所为报应她；她怎样对待别人，也要怎样对待她，因为她藐视耶和华——以色列的圣者。

我看见一个令人胆战心惊的异象：“诡诈的在行诡诈，毁灭的在行毁灭。以拦人啊，攻打吧！玛代人啊，围城吧！耶和华必终止巴比伦带来的痛苦。”

“我耶和华膏立塞鲁士为王，我牵着他的右手帮助他征服列国、降服列王；我使城门洞开，让他通行无阻。我对他说，‘我要走在你前面，为你铲平高山，打破铜门，砍断铁闩。我要把隐藏的宝物和秘密收藏的财富赐给你，好叫你知道点名呼召你的是我——以色列的上帝耶和华。虽然你不认识我，但为了我的仆人雅各，我所拣选的以色列，我还是点名呼召你，赐给你一个尊贵的名号。
