“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

其內必永無人煙，世世代代無人居住。阿拉伯人也不在那裏支搭帳棚；牧羊的人也不使羊羣臥在那裏。只有曠野的走獸臥在那裏；咆哮的獸滿了房屋。鴕鳥住在那裏；野山羊在那裏跳舞。豺狼必在它宮中呼號；野狗必在它華美殿內吼叫。巴比倫受罰的時候臨近；它的日子必不長久。

他大聲喊着說：巴比倫大城傾倒了！傾倒了！成了鬼魔的住處和各樣污穢之靈的巢穴，並各樣污穢可憎之雀鳥的巢穴。

又說：『耶和華啊，你曾論到這地方說：要剪除，甚至連人帶牲畜沒有在這裏居住的，必永遠荒涼。』你念完了這書，就把一塊石頭拴在書上，扔在幼發拉底河中，說：『巴比倫因耶和華所要降與她的災禍，必如此沉下去，不再興起，人民也必困乏。』」耶利米的話到此為止。

鵜鶘、箭豬卻要得為業；貓頭鷹、烏鴉要住在其間。耶和華必將空虛的準繩，混沌的線鉈，拉在其上。以東人要召貴冑來治國；那裏卻無一個，首領也都歸於無有。以東的宮殿要長荊棘；保障要長蒺藜和刺草；要作野狗的住處，鴕鳥的居所。曠野的走獸要和豺狼相遇；野山羊要與伴偶對叫。夜間的怪物必在那裏棲身，自找安歇之處。箭蛇要在那裏做窩，下蛋，菢蛋，生子，聚子在其影下；鷂鷹各與伴偶聚集在那裏。你們要查考宣讀耶和華的書。這都無一缺少，無一沒有伴偶；因為我的口已經吩咐，他的靈將牠們聚集。他也為牠們拈鬮，又親手用準繩給牠們分地；牠們必永得為業，世世代代住在其間。

她的城邑變為荒場、旱地、沙漠，無人居住，無人經過之地。

有一位大力的天使舉起一塊石頭，好像大磨石，扔在海裏，說：巴比倫大城也必這樣猛力地被扔下去，決不能再見了。彈琴、作樂、吹笛、吹號的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽見；各行手藝人在你中間決不能再遇見；推磨的聲音在你中間決不能再聽見；燈光在你中間決不能再照耀；新郎和新婦的聲音，在你中間決不能再聽見。你的客商原來是地上的尊貴人；萬國也被你的邪術迷惑了。先知和聖徒，並地上一切被殺之人的血，都在這城裏看見了。

人必不從你那裏取石頭為房角石，也不取石頭為根基石；你必永遠荒涼。這是耶和華說的。

巴比倫必成為亂堆，為野狗的住處，令人驚駭、嗤笑，並且無人居住。他們要像少壯獅子咆哮，像小獅子吼叫。

你們的母巴比倫就極其抱愧，生你們的必然蒙羞。她要列在諸國之末，成為曠野、旱地、沙漠。因耶和華的忿怒，必無人居住，要全然荒涼。凡經過巴比倫的要受驚駭，又因她所遭的災殃嗤笑。
