“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

鵜鶘和豪豬將占有那地，貓頭鷹和烏鴉將居住其中；耶和華要把準繩和線砣拉在其上，使它變得空虛混沌。那裡沒有貴族來宣稱王權，所有的首領也都歸於無有。它的城堡將長出荊棘，堡壘長出灌木叢和蒺藜；它必成為豺狗的巢、鴕鳥的窩。曠野的走獸要與土狼相遇，野山羊要呼叫同伴，夜行動物要在那裡棲身，為自己找到歇息之處。貓頭鷹要在那裡築窩、下蛋、孵化，並在它的陰影下聚攏幼雛；鷹隼也在那裡各與自己的伴偶聚集。你們要查考和閱讀耶和華的書卷：這些動物無一缺失，無一沒有伴偶，因為耶和華的口已經吩咐了，他的靈招聚了牠們。他也為牠們抽籤，親手用準繩給牠們分地；牠們必占有那地，直到永遠，世世代代住在其中。

隨後，一位強有力的天使拿起一塊像大磨石那樣的石頭，把它丟進海裡，說：「大巴比倫城也將這樣被猛烈地扔下去，絕不會再找到了！彈琴的、奏樂的、吹笛的、吹號之人的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！各種手藝的工匠，在你中間絕不會再找到了！磨石的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！燈的亮光，在你中間絕不會再照耀了！新郎和新娘的聲音，在你中間絕不會再聽到了！因為你的商人一向是地上的大人物，又因為萬國都被你的邪術所迷惑，而且先知們、聖徒們以及地上一切被殺之人的血，在你那裡都被發現了。」
