“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

“ Therefore wild beasts shall dwell with hyenas in Babylon, and ostriches shall dwell in her. She shall never again have people, nor be inhabited for all generations.

“ Soon Babylon will be inhabited by desert animals and hyenas. It will be a home for owls. Never again will people live there; it will lie desolate forever.

Therefore desert creatures and jackals will live there. Ostriches will dwell in it too. But no people will ever live there again. No one will dwell there for all time to come.

Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves will dwell there. The ostriches will dwell therein; and it will be inhabited no more forever; neither will it be lived in from generation to generation.

他用强有力的声音呼喊说：“倒塌了！大巴比伦倒塌了！她成了鬼魔居住的地方、一切污灵的巢穴、一切污秽鸟类的巢穴、一切污秽可憎野兽的巢穴。

“我必使巴比伦成为豪猪的占居之地，使它成为泥水沼泽；我必用毁灭的扫帚将它扫净！”万军之耶和华如此宣告。

鹈鹕和豪猪将占有那地，猫头鹰和乌鸦将居住其中；耶和华要把准绳和线砣拉在其上，使它变得空虚混沌。那里没有贵族来宣称王权，所有的首领也都归于无有。它的城堡将长出荆棘，堡垒长出灌木丛和蒺藜；它必成为豺狗的巢、鸵鸟的窝。旷野的走兽要与土狼相遇，野山羊要呼叫同伴，夜行动物要在那里栖身，为自己找到歇息之处。猫头鹰要在那里筑窝、下蛋、孵化，并在它的阴影下聚拢幼雏；鹰隼也在那里各与自己的伴偶聚集。你们要查考和阅读耶和华的书卷：这些动物无一缺失，无一没有伴偶，因为耶和华的口已经吩咐了，他的灵招聚了它们。他也为它们抽签，亲手用准绳给它们分地；它们必占有那地，直到永远，世世代代住在其中。

随后，一位强有力的天使拿起一块像大磨石那样的石头，把它丢进海里，说：“大巴比伦城也将这样被猛烈地扔下去，绝不会再找到了！弹琴的、奏乐的、吹笛的、吹号之人的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！各种手艺的工匠，在你中间绝不会再找到了！磨石的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！灯的亮光，在你中间绝不会再照耀了！新郎和新娘的声音，在你中间绝不会再听到了！因为你的商人一向是地上的大人物，又因为万国都被你的邪术所迷惑，而且先知们、圣徒们以及地上一切被杀之人的血，在你那里都被发现了。”
