“ So desert creatures and hyenas will live there, and there the owl will dwell. It will never again be inhabited or lived in from generation to generation.

他用强有力的声音喊着说：“巴比伦大城倒塌了！倒塌了！她成了鬼魔的住处、各样污鬼的监狱和一切可憎的不洁鸟兽的牢笼！

七十年后，我要报应巴比伦王和他国民迦勒底人的罪，使他们的土地永远荒凉。这是耶和华说的。

我必用毁灭的扫帚清扫它，使它成为沼泽之地和刺猬的住所。这是万军之耶和华说的。”

并且要说，‘耶和华啊！你曾说要毁灭这地方，使这里人兽绝迹、永远荒凉。’读完后，你要把卷轴绑在一块石头上，扔进幼发拉底河，然后说，‘耶和华降的灾祸必使巴比伦像这卷轴一样沉没、永不复兴，巴比伦人必灭亡。’”耶利米的话到此为止。

鹈鹕和刺猬必占据那里，猫头鹰和乌鸦必在那里做窝。耶和华要用准绳和线锤丈量以东，使它空虚混沌。以东没有一个显贵可以做王，那里所有的首领全都消失。那里的宫殿荆棘丛生，蒺藜、刺草遍布坚城，成了野狗的巢穴和鸵鸟的住处。在那里，豺狼和旷野的其他走兽出没，野山羊对叫，夜间的怪物栖息，找到安歇之处。猫头鹰要在那里做窝，产卵，孵化，把幼鸟保护在翅膀底下，鸷鸟也成双成对地聚集在那里。你们要去查考、阅读耶和华的书卷：以上的动物一个也不会少，无一缺少配偶。因为这是耶和华亲口说的，祂的灵必把它们聚在一起。祂亲手为它们抽签，用准绳为它们分地。它们必永远占据那里，世世代代住在那里。

她的城邑沦为干旱的荒漠，杳无人迹。

这时，有一位大力天使举起一块像大磨石的石头扔进海里，说：“巴比伦大城也必这样被用力扔下去，消失得无影无踪。在你那里，再也听不见弹琴作乐、鸣笛吹号的声音了，再也找不到能工巧匠了，再也听不到推磨的声音了，再也看不到闪耀的灯光了，再也听不见新婚夫妇的欢笑声了。因为你的商人曾经趾高气扬，你的邪术曾经迷惑万国，你的城墙内流满了众先知、众圣徒和地上一切被杀之人的血。”

再无人用你的石头做房角石或基石，你要永远荒凉。这是耶和华说的。

巴比伦必沦为废墟，杳无人迹，沦为豺狼出没的地方，令人惊惧、嗤笑。迦勒底人像群狮一样怒吼，又像幼狮一样咆哮。

生养你们的母亲巴比伦将羞愧难当，蒙受耻辱，排在列国之末，沦为干旱的荒漠。由于耶和华的愤怒，巴比伦必无人居住，荒凉不堪。她满目疮痍，令路人惊惧、嗤笑。
