Therefore this is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:“ I will punish the king of Babylon and his land as I punished the king of Assyria.

The Lord who rules over all is the God of Israel. He says,“ I punished the king of Assyria. In the same way, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land.

Therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing punishment on the king of Babylon and his land, as I punished the king of Assyria.

Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, the God of Israel, says:“ Now I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, just as I punished the king of Assyria.

看哪！亞述曾是黎巴嫩的香柏樹，枝條秀美，林影茂密，樹身高大，樹頂在茂密的枝葉之上。眾水使它長大，深淵使它長高；有江河從深淵流出環繞它栽種之地，又有支流延到田間的眾樹。因此，它樹身高大，高過田間的眾樹；它發旺生長的時候，因為水源豐足，所以枝子繁多，枝條長長。空中的飛鳥都在枝上搭窩；田野的走獸都在枝條下生產；所有大國都在它的樹蔭下居住。它樹身高大，枝條長長而顯得秀美，因為它的根扎在水多的地方。神園中的香柏樹不能與它相比，松樹比不上它的枝子；楓樹也不及它的枝條；神園中所有的樹木都比不上它的秀美。我使它因枝條繁多而顯得秀美，以致在神的園中，伊甸所有的樹木都嫉妒它。“‘因此，主耶和華這樣說：因為它樹身高大，樹頂在茂密的枝葉之上，又因它高大而心驕氣傲，我就把它交在列國中為首的人手中，他必定對付它；因著它的罪惡，我就把它驅逐出去。必有外族人，就是列國中最強暴的，把它砍下丟棄。它的枝葉落在山上和所有的谷中；它的枝子折斷，落在地上所有的水溝裡；地上的萬族都必走離它的蔭下，把它丟棄。空中的飛鳥都住在倒下的樹身上，田野的走獸都臥在它的枝條間。好使水旁所有的樹木都不會因樹身高大而自高，也不會使樹頂長到茂密的枝葉上，又使一切有水滋潤的樹都不會高傲地屹立；因為他們在世人中，與那些下到陰府的人一起，都交與死亡、交與地的深處了。“‘主耶和華這樣說：它下陰間的日子，我就因它以悲哀遮蓋深淵，阻塞深淵的江河，使大水停流；我要使黎巴嫩為它悲傷、田野所有的樹木都因它枯乾。我把它扔下陰間，與那些下到陰府的人一起的時候，我就使列國因它墜落的響聲而震驚。伊甸所有的樹木，就是黎巴嫩有水滋潤、最佳最美的樹，都在地的深處得到安慰。這些樹與它一同下到陰間，往那些被刀劍所殺的人那裡去。他們作過它的膀臂，曾在列國中住在它的蔭下。

耶和華必伸手攻擊北方，毀滅亞述，使尼尼微變成荒場，乾旱像曠野。群畜和各類的走獸必躺臥在其中；鵜鶘和箭豬棲宿在柱頂上；窗內有鳴叫的聲音，門檻上必有荒涼；因為香柏木都要暴露出來。這就是那歡樂安居之城，她心裡曾說：“只有我，除我以外，再沒有別的了。”現在怎麼竟成了荒場、走獸躺臥之處呢！凡從那裡經過的，都必舞手嗤笑。

以下是對尼尼微的宣判，就是伊勒歌斯人那鴻的異象錄。耶和華是嫉惡和施行報復的神；耶和華施行報復，並且滿懷烈怒；耶和華向他的對頭施行報復，向他的仇敵懷怒。耶和華不輕易發怒，可是大有能力；他絕不以有罪的為無罪。耶和華乘著狂風暴雨而來，雲彩是他腳下的塵土。

於是耶和華的使者出去，在亞述營中擊殺了十八萬五千人；到了早晨，有人起來，所見的都是死屍。亞述王西拿基立就拔營離去，返回本地，住在尼尼微。他在自己的神尼斯洛廟裡叩拜的時候，他的兒子亞得米勒和沙利色用刀殺了他，然後逃到亞拉臘地。他的兒子以撒哈頓接續他作王。
