昔迦勒底人殲滅我民、欣喜不勝、身肥體胖、若牛得蒭、若馬長嘶。

惟爾迦勒底民、曾刼奪我業、欣喜歡樂、踴躍若踐穀之犢、鳴嘶若馬、

“ Because you rejoice and are glad, you who pillage my inheritance, because you frolic like a heifer threshing grain and neigh like stallions,

“ People of Babylon, you have stolen what belongs to me. That has made you glad and full of joy. You dance around like a young cow on a threshing floor. You neigh like stallions.

“ You rejoice and are glad, you who plundered my chosen people. You frisk about like a calf in a meadow and neigh like a stallion.

Because you rejoice, because you celebrate— you who plundered my inheritance— because you frolic like a young cow treading grain and neigh like stallions,

“ Because you are glad, because you are jubilant, You who pillage My heritage, Because you skip about like a threshing heifer And neigh like stallions,

“ Because you were glad, because you rejoiced, You destroyers of My heritage, Because you have grown fat like a heifer threshing grain, And you bellow like bulls,

Because ye are glad, because ye rejoice, O ye that plunder my heritage, because ye are wanton as a heifer that treadeth out the grain, and neigh as strong horses;

Because you rejoice, because you sing in triumph— you who plundered My inheritance— because you frolic like a young cow treading grain and neigh like stallions,

Because ye were glad, because ye rejoiced, O ye destroyers of mine heritage, because ye are grown fat as the heifer at grass, and bellow as bulls;

“ People of Babylonia, you plundered my people. That made you happy and glad. You frolic about like calves in a pasture. Your joyous sounds are like the neighs of a stallion.

“ Because you are glad, because you rejoice, O you who plunder my heritage, because you are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain, and neigh as strong horses;

I was angry with my people; I profaned my heritage; I gave them into your hand; you showed them no mercy; on the aged you made your yoke exceedingly heavy.

“ Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy, who say to your husbands,‘ Bring, that we may drink!’

Even her hired soldiers in her midst are like fattened calves; yes, they have turned and fled together; they did not stand, for the day of their calamity has come upon them, the time of their punishment.

O God, the nations have come into your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple; they have laid Jerusalem in ruins.They have given the bodies of your servants to the birds of the heavens for food, the flesh of your faithful to the beasts of the earth.They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there was no one to bury them.We have become a taunt to our neighbors, mocked and derided by those around us.

“ Israel is a hunted sheep driven away by lions. First the king of Assyria devoured him, and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has gnawed his bones.

they have grown fat and sleek. They know no bounds in deeds of evil; they judge not with justice the cause of the fatherless, to make it prosper, and they do not defend the rights of the needy.

They were well-fed, lusty stallions, each neighing for his neighbor’s wife.

“ They heard my groaning, yet there is no one to comfort me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it. You have brought the day you announced; now let them be as I am.

O God, do not keep silence; do not hold your peace or be still, O God!For behold, your enemies make an uproar; those who hate you have raised their heads.They lay crafty plans against your people; they consult together against your treasured ones.They say,“ Come, let us wipe them out as a nation; let the name of Israel be remembered no more!”For they conspire with one accord; against you they make a covenant—

Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz; but to you also the cup shall pass; you shall become drunk and strip yourself bare.The punishment of your iniquity, O daughter of Zion, is accomplished; he will keep you in exile no longer; but your iniquity, O daughter of Edom, he will punish; he will uncover your sins.

“ Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me; he has crushed me; he has made me an empty vessel; he has swallowed me like a monster; he has filled his stomach with my delicacies; he has rinsed me out.The violence done to me and to my kinsmen be upon Babylon,” let the inhabitant of Zion say.“ My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea,” let Jerusalem say.

And this shall be the plague with which the Lord will strike all the peoples that wage war against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.

Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker; he who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.

Many bulls encompass me; strong bulls of Bashan surround me;

All who pass along the way clap their hands at you; they hiss and wag their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem:“ Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of all the earth?”All your enemies rail against you; they hiss, they gnash their teeth, they cry:“ We have swallowed her! Ah, this is the day we longed for; now we have it; we see it!”

“ But Jeshurun grew fat, and kicked; you grew fat, stout, and sleek; then he forsook God who made him and scoffed at the Rock of his salvation.

But do not gloat over the day of your brother in the day of his misfortune; do not rejoice over the people of Judah in the day of their ruin; do not boast in the day of distress.

Against a godless nation I send him, and against the people of my wrath I command him, to take spoil and seize plunder, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.But he does not so intend, and his heart does not so think; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few;

“ Son of man, because Tyre said concerning Jerusalem,‘ Aha, the gate of the peoples is broken; it has swung open to me. I shall be replenished, now that she is laid waste,’therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, O Tyre, and will bring up many nations against you, as the sea brings up its waves.

Remember your congregation, which you have purchased of old, which you have redeemed to be the tribe of your heritage! Remember Mount Zion, where you have dwelt.Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins; the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!Your foes have roared in the midst of your meeting place; they set up their own signs for signs.They were like those who swing axes in a forest of trees.And all its carved wood they broke down with hatchets and hammers.They set your sanctuary on fire; they profaned the dwelling place of your name, bringing it down to the ground.They said to themselves,“ We will utterly subdue them”; they burned all the meeting places of God in the land.

“ Thus says the Lord God: Because the Philistines acted revengefully and took vengeance with malice of soul to destroy in never-ending enmity,therefore thus says the Lord God, Behold, I will stretch out my hand against the Philistines, and I will cut off the Cherethites and destroy the rest of the seacoast.I will execute great vengeance on them with wrathful rebukes. Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I lay my vengeance upon them.”

Behold, a day is coming for the Lord, when the spoil taken from you will be divided in your midst.For I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city shall be taken and the houses plundered and the women raped. Half of the city shall go out into exile, but the rest of the people shall not be cut off from the city.Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations as when he fights on a day of battle.

Say to the Ammonites, Hear the word of the Lord God: Thus says the Lord God, Because you said,‘ Aha!’ over my sanctuary when it was profaned, and over the land of Israel when it was made desolate, and over the house of Judah when they went into exile,therefore behold, I am handing you over to the people of the East for a possession, and they shall set their encampments among you and make their dwellings in your midst. They shall eat your fruit, and they shall drink your milk.I will make Rabbah a pasture for camels and Ammon a fold for flocks. Then you will know that I am the Lord.For thus says the Lord God: Because you have clapped your hands and stamped your feet and rejoiced with all the malice within your soul against the land of Israel,therefore, behold, I have stretched out my hand against you, and will hand you over as plunder to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and will make you perish out of the countries; I will destroy you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.“ Thus says the Lord God: Because Moab and Seir said,‘ Behold, the house of Judah is like all the other nations,’

For thus said the Lord of hosts, after his glory sent me to the nations who plundered you, for he who touches you touches the apple of his eye:“ Behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall become plunder for those who served them. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me.

Ephraim was a trained calf that loved to thresh, and I spared her fair neck; but I will put Ephraim to the yoke; Judah must plow; Jacob must harrow for himself.

Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter. Woe to them, for their day has come, the time of their punishment.
