LORD, I know you look for faithfulness. But even when you punish these people, they feel no remorse. Even when you nearly destroy them, they refuse to be corrected. They have become as hardheaded as a rock. They refuse to change their ways.

O Yahweh, don’t your eyes look on truth? You have stricken them, but they were not grieved. You have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than a rock. They have refused to return.

In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of[ them] whose heart[ is] perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars.

But thou shalt say unto them, This[ is] a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the LORD their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.

I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early,[ and] corrupted all their doings.

For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel[ are] impudent and hardhearted.Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads.As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they[ be] a rebellious house.

Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

The LORD[ is] in his holy temple, the LORD’S throne[ is] in heaven: his eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest:[ this shall be] the portion of their cup.For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.

But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.Yea, they made their hearts[ as] an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;

A wicked man hardeneth his face: but[ as for] the upright, he directeth his way.

Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

Because I knew that thou[ art] obstinate, and thy neck[ is] an iron sinew, and thy brow brass;

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle,[ yet] will not his foolishness depart from him.

Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.

And in the time of his distress did he trespass yet more against the LORD: this[ is that] king Ahaz.

Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.From the sole of the foot even unto the head[ there is] no soundness in it;[ but] wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.

Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected[ us], and we gave[ them] reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.

They have stricken me,[ shalt thou say, and] I was not sick; they have beaten me,[ and] I felt[ it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

In thy filthiness[ is] lewdness: because I have purged thee, and thou wast not purged, thou shalt not be purged from thy filthiness any more, till I have caused my fury to rest upon thee.

Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid[ it] not to heart.

The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.

Great in counsel, and mighty in work: for thine eyes[ are] open upon all the ways of the sons of men: to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings:

Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden[ part] thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
