“ Among my people are the wicked who lie in wait like men who snare birds and like those who set traps to catch people.

“ Jeremiah, some of my people are evil. They hide and wait just as people hide to catch birds. They set traps for people.

For wicked men are found among my people; they lurk like fowlers lying in wait. They set a trap; they catch men.

“ Among my people are wicked men who lie in wait for victims like a hunter hiding in a blind. They continually set traps to catch people.

They encourage themselves in evil plans. They talk about laying snares secretly. They say,“ Who will see them?”

He lurks in secret as a lion in his ambush. He lies in wait to catch the helpless. He catches the helpless when he draws him in his net.The helpless are crushed. They collapse. They fall under his strength.

“ You, son of man, will you judge? Will you judge the bloody city? Among you they have oppressed the foreigner. In you they have wronged the fatherless and the widow.You have despised my holy things, and have profaned my Sabbaths.Slanderous men have been in you to shed blood. In you they have eaten on the mountains. They have committed lewdness among you.In you have they uncovered their fathers’ nakedness. In you have they humbled her who was unclean in her impurity.One has committed abomination with his neighbor’s wife; and another has lewdly defiled his daughter- in- law. Another in you has humbled his sister, his father’s daughter.In you have they taken bribes to shed blood. You have taken interest and increase, and you have greedily gained of your neighbors by oppression, and have forgotten me,” says the Lord Yahweh.

Let a cry be heard from their houses when you bring a troop suddenly on them; for they have dug a pit to take me and hidden snares for my feet.

and make men like the fish of the sea, like the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?He takes up all of them with the hook. He catches them in his net, and gathers them in his dragnet. Therefore he rejoices and is glad.

For the net is spread in vain in the sight of any bird;but these lay in wait for their own blood. They lurk secretly for their own lives.

“ For my people are foolish. They don’t know me. They are foolish children, and they have no understanding. They are skillful in doing evil, but they don’t know how to do good.”
