People of Israel,” declares the Lord,“ I am bringing a distant nation against you— an ancient and enduring nation, a people whose language you do not know, whose speech you do not understand.

The Lord will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand,

“ Make mention to the nations, Yes, proclaim against Jerusalem, That watchers come from a far country And raise their voice against the cities of Judah.

For with stammering lips and another tongue He will speak to this people,

He will lift up a banner to the nations from afar, And will whistle to them from the end of the earth; Surely they shall come with speed, swiftly.

For behold, I am calling All the families of the kingdoms of the north,” says the Lord;“ They shall come and each one set his throne At the entrance of the gates of Jerusalem, Against all its walls all around, And against all the cities of Judah.

You will not see a fierce people, A people of obscure speech, beyond perception, Of a stammering tongue that you cannot understand.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ says the Lord,‘ and Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land, against its inhabitants, and against these nations all around, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, a hissing, and perpetual desolations.

You, O king, are a king of kings. For the God of heaven has given you a kingdom, power, strength, and glory;and wherever the children of men dwell, or the beasts of the field and the birds of the heaven, He has given them into your hand, and has made you ruler over them all— you are this head of gold.

Egypt, Judah, Edom, the people of Ammon, Moab, and all who are in the farthest corners, who dwell in the wilderness. For all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.”

“ As the thief is ashamed when he is found out, So is the house of Israel ashamed; They and their kings and their princes, and their priests and their prophets,

“ Look among the nations and watch— Be utterly astounded! For I will work a work in your days Which you would not believe, though it were told you.For indeed I am raising up the Chaldeans, A bitter and hasty nation Which marches through the breadth of the earth, To possess dwelling places that are not theirs.They are terrible and dreadful; Their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.Their horses also are swifter than leopards, And more fierce than evening wolves. Their chargers charge ahead; Their cavalry comes from afar; They fly as the eagle that hastens to eat.“ They all come for violence; Their faces are set like the east wind. They gather captives like sand.They scoff at kings, And princes are scorned by them. They deride every stronghold, For they heap up earthen mounds and seize it.

For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help.

For the house of Israel and the house of Judah Have dealt very treacherously with Me,” says the Lord.

You will be punished by the Lord of hosts With thunder and earthquake and great noise, With storm and tempest And the flame of devouring fire.

In the law it is written:“ With men of other tongues and other lips I will speak to this people; And yet, for all that, they will not hear Me,” says the Lord.

“ After this I saw in the night visions, and behold, a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, exceedingly strong. It had huge iron teeth; it was devouring, breaking in pieces, and trampling the residue with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that were before it, and it had ten horns.

Thus says the Lord:“ Behold, a people comes from the north country, And a great nation will be raised from the farthest parts of the earth.

I will encamp against you all around, I will lay siege against you with a mound, And I will raise siegeworks against you.

Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?

and do not think to say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.And even now the ax is laid to the root of the trees. Therefore every tree which does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
