“ They have lied about the Lord and said,‘ He won’t bother us! No disasters will come upon us. There will be no war or famine.

They have lied about the Lord; they said,“ He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine.

They have told lies about the Lord. They said,“ He won’t do anything! No harm will come to us. We will never see war or be hungry.

They have spoken falsely of the Lord and have said,‘ He will do nothing; no disaster will come upon us, nor shall we see sword or famine.

They have contradicted the LORD and insisted,“ It won’t happen. Harm won’t come to us; we won’t see sword or famine.”

They have lied about the Lord And said,“ Not He; Misfortune will not come upon us, Nor will we see sword or famine.

They have lied about the Lord, And said,“ It is not He. Neither will evil come upon us, Nor shall we see sword or famine.

They have denied Jehovah, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

They have contradicted the Lord and insisted,“ It won’t happen. Harm won’t come to us; we won’t see sword or famine.”

They have belied the LORD, and said,[ It is] not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

“ These people have denied what the LORD says. They have said,‘ That is not so! No harm will come to us. We will not experience war and famine.

They have denied Yahweh, and said,“ It is not he. Evil will won’t come on us. We won’t see sword or famine.

But the people mocked these messengers of God and despised their words. They scoffed at the prophets until the Lord’s anger could no longer be restrained and nothing could be done.

If they cross the border of our land and go to Beth shemesh, we will know it was the Lord who brought this great disaster upon us. If they don’t, we will know it was not his hand that caused the plague. It came simply by chance.”

“ Those who hear the warnings of this curse should not congratulate themselves, thinking,‘ I am safe, even though I am following the desires of my own stubborn heart.’ This would lead to utter ruin!

Therefore, listen to this message from the Lord, you scoffing rulers in Jerusalem.You boast,“ We have struck a bargain to cheat death and have made a deal to dodge the grave. The coming destruction can never touch us, for we have built a strong refuge made of lies and deception.”

the prophets give false prophecies, and the priests rule with an iron hand. Worse yet, my people like it that way! But what will you do when the end comes?

They think,“ Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”

Then Jeremiah the prophet said to Hananiah,“ Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent you, but the people believe your lies.Therefore, this is what the Lord says:‘ You must die. Your life will end this very year because you have rebelled against the Lord.’”Two months later the prophet Hananiah died.

Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, their prophets are telling them,‘ All is well— no war or famine will come. The Lord will surely send you peace.’”Then the Lord said,“ These prophets are telling lies in my name. I did not send them or tell them to speak. I did not give them any messages. They prophesy of visions and revelations they have never seen or heard. They speak foolishness made up in their own lying hearts.

For you know quite well that the day of the Lord’s return will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night.When people are saying,“ Everything is peaceful and secure,” then disaster will fall on them as suddenly as a pregnant woman’s labor pains begin. And there will be no escape.

The Lord replied,“ Look around at the nations; look and be amazed! For I am doing something in your own day, something you wouldn’t believe even if someone told you about it.I am raising up the Babylonians, a cruel and violent people. They will march across the world and conquer other lands.

Instead, they have told lies and made false predictions. They say,‘ This message is from the Lord,’ even though the Lord never sent them. And yet they expect him to fulfill their prophecies!

Then I said,“ O Sovereign Lord, the people have been deceived by what you said, for you promised peace for Jerusalem. But the sword is held at their throats!”

And I will bring back Jehoiachin son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the other captives that were taken to Babylon. I will surely break the yoke that the king of Babylon has put on your necks. I, the Lord, have spoken!’”

But now I see that the prophets of Jerusalem are even worse! They commit adultery and love dishonesty. They encourage those who are doing evil so that no one turns away from their sins. These prophets are as wicked as the people of Sodom and Gomorrah once were.”Therefore, this is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says concerning the prophets:“ I will feed them with bitterness and give them poison to drink. For it is because of Jerusalem’s prophets that wickedness has filled this land.”This is what the Lord of Heaven’s Armies says to his people:“ Do not listen to these prophets when they prophesy to you, filling you with futile hopes. They are making up everything they say. They do not speak for the Lord!They keep saying to those who despise my word,‘ Don’t worry! The Lord says you will have peace!’ And to those who stubbornly follow their own desires, they say,‘ No harm will come your way!’

Azariah son of Hoshaiah and Johanan son of Kareah and all the other proud men said to Jeremiah,“ You lie! The Lord our God hasn’t forbidden us to go to Egypt!Baruch son of Neriah has convinced you to say this, because he wants us to stay here and be killed by the Babylonians or be carried off into exile.”

Suppose a prophet full of lies would say to you,“ I’ll preach to you the joys of wine and alcohol!” That’s just the kind of prophet you would like!

“ Son of man, you’ve heard that proverb they quote in Israel:‘ Time passes, and prophecies come to nothing.’Tell the people,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will put an end to this proverb, and you will soon stop quoting it.’ Now give them this new proverb to replace the old one:‘ The time has come for every prophecy to be fulfilled!’“ There will be no more false visions and flattering predictions in Israel.For I am the Lord! If I say it, it will happen. There will be no more delays, you rebels of Israel. I will fulfill my threat of destruction in your own lifetime. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”Then this message came to me from the Lord:“ Son of man, the people of Israel are saying,‘ He’s talking about the distant future. His visions won’t come true for a long, long time.’Therefore, tell them,‘ This is what the Sovereign Lord says: No more delay! I will now do everything I have threatened. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!’”

All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this testimony is true. Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a liar because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son.

You rulers make decisions based on bribes; you priests teach God’s laws only for a price; you prophets won’t prophesy unless you are paid. Yet all of you claim to depend on the Lord.“ No harm can come to us,” you say,“ for the Lord is here among us.”
