For this is what the Lord says:“ The whole land shall be a desolation, Yet I will not execute a complete destruction.

The Chaldeans also burned the king’s palace and the houses of the people with fire, and they tore down the walls of Jerusalem.

Now the king was angry, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.

And He gave up His strength to captivity And His glory into the hand of the enemy.He also turned His people over to the sword, And was filled with wrath at His inheritance.

Do not trust in deceptive words, saying,‘ This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’For if you truly amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly practice justice between a person and his neighbor,if you do not oppress the stranger, the orphan, or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, nor follow other gods to your own ruin,then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.“ Behold, you are trusting in deceptive words to no avail.Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, swear falsely, offer sacrifices to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,then come and stand before Me in this house which is called by My name, and say,‘ We are saved!’— so that you may do all these abominations?Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your sight? Behold, I Myself have seen it,” declares the Lord.“ But go now to My place which was in Shiloh, where I made My name dwell at the beginning, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.

But to the others He said in my presence,“ Go through the city after him and strike; do not let your eye have pity and do not spare.Utterly kill old men, young men, female virgins, little children, and women, but do not touch any person on whom is the mark; and you shall start from My sanctuary.” So they started with the elders who were before the temple.He also said to them,“ Defile the temple and fill the courtyards with the dead. Go out!” So they went out and struck and killed the people in the city.

For I am with you,’ declares the Lord,‘ to save you; For I will completely destroy all the nations where I have scattered you, Only I will not destroy you completely. But I will discipline you fairly And will by no means leave you unpunished.’

He says,“ You are My war club, My weapon of war; And with you I shatter nations, And with you I destroy kingdoms.With you I shatter the horse and his rider, And with you I shatter the chariot and its rider,And with you I shatter man and woman, And with you I shatter the old man and youth, And with you I shatter the young man and virgin,And with you I shatter the shepherd and his flock, And with you I shatter the farmer and his team, And with you I shatter governors and officials.

And the Lord said,“ Name him Lo ammi, because you are not My people, and I am not your God.”

So He brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans, who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion on young man or virgin, old man or frail; He handed them all over to him.

Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hands is My indignation,I send it against a godless nation And commission it against the people of My fury To capture spoils and to seize plunder, And to trample them down like mud in the streets.Yet it does not so intend, Nor does it plan so in its heart, But rather it is its purpose to destroy And to eliminate many nations.

And the Lord sent against him bands of Chaldeans, bands of Arameans, bands of Moabites, and bands of Ammonites. He sent them against Judah to destroy it, in accordance with the word of the Lord which He had spoken through His servants the prophets.It indeed came upon Judah at the command of the Lord, to remove them from His sight due to the sins of Manasseh, in accordance with everything that he had done,and also for the innocent blood which he shed, for he filled Jerusalem with innocent blood; and the Lord was unwilling to forgive.

‘ Prepare for war against her; Arise, and let’s attack at noon. Woe to us, for the day declines, For the shadows of the evening lengthen!Arise, and let’s attack by night And destroy her palaces!’ ”For this is what the Lord of armies says:“ Cut down her trees And pile up an assault ramp against Jerusalem. This is the city to be punished, In whose midst there is only oppression.

The pronouncement concerning Babylon which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw:Lift up a flag on the bare hill, Raise your voice to them, Wave the hand that they may enter the doors of the nobles.I have commanded My consecrated ones, I have also called for My warriors Who boast in My eminence, To execute My anger.A sound of a roar on the mountains, Like that of many people! A sound of an uproar of kingdoms, Of nations gathered together! The Lord of armies is mustering the army for battle.They are coming from a distant country, From the farthest horizons, The Lord and the weapons of His indignation, To destroy the whole land.

behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,’ declares the Lord,‘ and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, My servant, and will bring them against this land and against its inhabitants and against all these surrounding nations; and I will completely destroy them and make them an object of horror and hissing, and an everlasting place of ruins.

Jacob My servant, do not fear,” declares the Lord,“ For I am with you. For I will make a complete destruction of all the nations Where I have driven you, Yet I will not make a complete destruction of you; But I will correct you properly And by no means leave you unpunished.”

But I will spare a few of them from the sword, the famine, and plague so that they may tell of all their abominations among the nations where they go, and may know that I am the Lord.”

Behold, the eyes of the Lord God are on the sinful kingdom, And I will eliminate it from the face of the earth; Nevertheless, I will not totally eliminate the house of Jacob,” Declares the Lord.

“ Yet even in those days,” declares the Lord,“ I will not make a complete destruction of you.

Or if I were to bring a sword on that country and say,‘ A sword is to pass through the country,’ and I eliminated human and animal life from it,
