“ Run up and down every street in Jerusalem,” says the Lord.“ Look high and low; search throughout the city! If you can find even one just and honest person, I will not destroy the city.

“ Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem, look around and consider, search through her squares. If you can find but one person who deals honestly and seeks the truth, I will forgive this city.

The Lord says,“ Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem. Look around. Think about what you see. Search through the market. See if you can find one honest person who tries to be truthful. If you can, I will forgive this city.

Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, look and take note! Search her squares to see if you can find a man, one who does justice and seeks truth, that I may pardon her.

Roam through the streets of Jerusalem. Investigate; search in her squares. If you find one person, any who acts justly, who pursues faithfulness, then I will forgive her.

“ Roam about through the streets of Jerusalem, And look and take notice. And seek in her public squares, If you can find a person, If there is one who does justice, who seeks honesty, Then I will forgive her.

“ Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man, If there is anyone who executes judgment, Who seeks the truth, And I will pardon her.

Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that doeth justly, that seeketh truth; and I will pardon her.

“ Run back and forth through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its wide places, if you can find a man, if there is anyone who does justly, who seeks truth, then I will pardon her.

The eyes of the Lord search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. What a fool you have been! From now on you will be at war.”

“ I looked for someone who might rebuild the wall of righteousness that guards the land. I searched for someone to stand in the gap in the wall so I wouldn’t have to destroy the land, but I found no one.

Abraham approached him and said,“ Will you sweep away both the righteous and the wicked?Suppose you find fifty righteous people living there in the city— will you still sweep it away and not spare it for their sakes?Surely you wouldn’t do such a thing, destroying the righteous along with the wicked. Why, you would be treating the righteous and the wicked exactly the same! Surely you wouldn’t do that! Should not the Judge of all the earth do what is right?”And the Lord replied,“ If I find fifty righteous people in Sodom, I will spare the entire city for their sake.”Then Abraham spoke again.“ Since I have begun, let me speak further to my Lord, even though I am but dust and ashes.Suppose there are only forty five righteous people rather than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?” And the Lord said,“ I will not destroy it if I find forty five righteous people there.”Then Abraham pressed his request further.“ Suppose there are only forty?” And the Lord replied,“ I will not destroy it for the sake of the forty.”“ Please don’t be angry, my Lord,” Abraham pleaded.“ Let me speak— suppose only thirty righteous people are found?” And the Lord replied,“ I will not destroy it if I find thirty.”Then Abraham said,“ Since I have dared to speak to the Lord, let me continue— suppose there are only twenty?” And the Lord replied,“ Then I will not destroy it for the sake of the twenty.”Finally, Abraham said,“ Lord, please don’t be angry with me if I speak one more time. Suppose only ten are found there?” And the Lord replied,“ Then I will not destroy it for the sake of the ten.”

God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God.But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God.

How miserable I am! I feel like the fruit picker after the harvest who can find nothing to eat. Not a cluster of grapes or a single early fig can be found to satisfy my hunger.The godly people have all disappeared; not one honest person is left on the earth. They are all murderers, setting traps even for their own brothers.

But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.”

But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one!

Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed.Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked. The Lord looked and was displeased to find there was no justice.

No one cares about being fair and honest. The people’s lawsuits are based on lies. They conceive evil deeds and then give birth to sin.

Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth!

The other angel said,“ Hurry, and say to that young man,‘ Jerusalem will someday be so full of people and livestock that there won’t be room enough for everyone! Many will live outside the city walls.

So I said to myself,“ I will get up and roam the city, searching in all its streets and squares. I will search for the one I love.” So I searched everywhere but did not find him.

Elijah replied,“ I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.”

By the gates at the entrance to the town, on the road leading in, she cries aloud,

He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them.

“ The servant returned and told his master what they had said. His master was furious and said,‘ Go quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and invite the poor, the crippled, the blind, and the lame.’

They swarm over the city and run along its walls. They enter all the houses, climbing like thieves through the windows.

Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God.For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.

Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?

Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.
